Are we all on the same maps?
Are there only three options and all that changes is where you are dropped?

There are 4 options, and yes, it's all on the same large map.
Map is huge and detailed, but yes it is the same map. There are 4 start locations, not 3. You also spawn randomly in a huge circle around within each start area.
Yep. One good map is better than a lot of mediocre maps.
Yep. Really hampers replay ability imo, why would I use the scanner when I already know where all of the resources are, since I've played the game before? Could at least randomize the nodes, maybe give them multiple possible resource spawns on save creation, or have several nodes of each resource that aren't all enabled/visible on every save? Something to add at least a little variety. Maybe randomize slug and hard drive locations as well.

devs have talked about randomising nodes before, but it's not a priority at all.

randomising other things is a significant amount of work though and probably won't happen.
The map is hand built. Every single tree, blade of grass, bush, rock, AI path, cliff, node formation and everything you see.
All hand placed 1 by 1 by Hanna. She has been hand placing items for the last 4 yrs.
2 yrs before we even knew the game existed.

Randomizing nodes would absolutely mess up game balance. Imagine only getting a couple impure iron nodes in a kilometre radius, that'd SUCK.

Not to mention power slugs and crash sites are specifically placed for a reason

If they opened it to mods, like other games/devs have, people could contribute to building their own maps but it does kind of water down the product itself.

Well yeah, they would have to put some actual thought into it, as is the case with any game development decision. I'm not saying they can just flip a switch and boom it's done, but since they aren't willing to make more maps (they have said this), it would be nice if they at least gave this map some variation. As for your example, they could guarantee the purity of a node based on its distance from spawn and how difficult it is to get to. Just an idea.
