Nothing wrong with being attached to an earthy element. Less far to fall; unlike Mr Methane Head above who might just blow up... or maybe just float away... X)

More often than not - ground level is too uneven to build anything remotely complex. Also it's a pain to line everything up by hand and constantly worry about elevation discrepancies when connecting belts.

I build on foundation as close to the ground as is reasonable. This game is too gorgeous to just make a giant floating platform and dealing with the terrain is part of the fun for me.

Edit: To stay on topic, I also wish you could delete crash sites. It's messed up my build plans before too.

My builds vary in elevation quite a bit...but in this situation I need to put a foundation close to the ground over the crash site or do a major redesign...the crash sticks up thru the foundation...OCD

Aye I wanted to build as close to the ground as I could as I also don't want to just build a huge platform in the sky as it just seems weird. As such I've come up with a compromise, I find the highest hill near where I'm setting up the base and start the foundation from there.

It's not perfect but it at least lets you build close to the ground and also know you'll have a large open area to build in before you need to raise the ground a bit. It would be nice to be able to remove crash sites and rocks as well though.

You can buy decorative pillars from the awesome shop to make it look like your base has supports.

I make supports out of the foundations anyway so it has pillars to support it, I'd still rather not have the base 300ft in the air though as it just seems silly, especially as normally if making a factory it would be easier to dig out the hillside to flatten the land then build foundations on it instead of just building a huge platform supported by pillars.

I, too, am pretty grounded when it comes to building. It feels more satisfying covering everything in concrete till I've reached the desired foundation level for my factory site. Also, more realistic to admire in pioneering this world. It would be nice to be able to blow up wrecks with an option once the site has been salvaged.

I'll throw my hat in on this one; I'd love to be able to remove wrecks I've already salvaged; having played more than once, I've taken to planting power poles or pipe supports (my wife calls them lollipops) on top of the ones I snatch the hard drive from so I can tell at a distance whether I've already gotten that one on this playthrough.

That being said, I almost never build directly on the ground; active machinery has a tendency to keep things from respawning (this may or may not be true, anymore; I have a couple berry bushes next to miners that seem to pop every few days, so it may have changed... although the miners in question aren't always on, either).

Why did you guys dig this thread up from the ground? This is a nearly 3-year necro.

Unless you are a time traveller, it is the year 2022 now.

This thread started in 2021, less than a year ago.
