What is best way to record a truck route?
Do you need to record a full there and back again loop or can you just start at one drop off point and drive to the second and finish recording, causing it to just retrace the route?

Yes it needs to be the full loop for the refording.

If you can I would advise building a foundation highway as well.

I went slowly and deliberately through my route to make sure it was safe both directions. But watch out for any 'pause' symbols that appear. It's ok at each truck stop for a pause of 16 seconds or so, but if you pause along the route you should go back and delete it so the truck makes a non-stop trip. It should go as fast as it's able, regardless of how fast you went during recording.

I had to delete an extra Pause at my starting point, then I slimmed down the pauses at each end a bit from 25 seconds or so down to 16 as that seemed to be enough for my little sugarcube truck to do it's thing.

the best way is as others said a designated highway for every route that is also made into a tunnel with walls so they cant fall off

Yeah, this. Easiest way I found is to get an inventory full of concrete, make a road from a to b, and just send it - then use walls to prevent coming off.

The cars are surprisingly durable, i go full speed, all gas no breaks and have only had to redo a route once because the Tractor had trouble going up a sand dune and kept rolling back down.

When on auto pilot the vehicles top speed seems to be lowered and because of this they seem to have trouble dealing with steep inclines. If you really have to lay on the gas to get up a big hill the autopilot will likely get stuck going 3/4 of the way up the hill then it role back down, they will keep trying again till they run out of gas.

As other said building highways works... but ♥♥♥♥ that noise i criss cross all my routes and i havent had any issues, and if im driving around and i see an autopilot vehicle i ram into it for fun. The course correction is really good.

Nah, unless your vehicle is travelling in some really rotten terrain, such as boulders everywhere with no flat areas,I find no benefit to building roads. it does fine running over the grasslands and sand dunes with no issues.

Yeah foundation highways work, but usually they're pretty ugly and they kind of defeat the whole point of vehicles which is to allow resource transportation without tedious infrastructure installation first.

Just driving along natural pathways has always worked fine for me, but it depends how many vehicles you set up.

Are you sure about that? I'm almost certain it tries to match your speed.

The markers are dropped at a fixed time interval. The truck travels at whatever speed is necessary to move between those points again over that fixed time interval. So, if the arrows are really close together, it drives slower.

Yes and no. The arrow makers are just way points. The vehicle will head straight for the next way point taking a minimal amount of time to correct and face course. Multiple waypoints closer together does slow the vehicle but only because it's trying to identify and face the next waypoint.

Alright, sounds good. So you can delete waypoints one at a time to fine tune the route? I didn't know that.

One thing I just remembered I got from a Kibitz video. Once you are out of a truck's animation 'range' (say 300-500 meters maybe?), they just turn in to icons that 'warp' from waypoint to waypoint.

Basically makes them invulnerable to damage, collisions, small obstructions, etc. I dunno, I'm sure they can still get stuck or bugged out in some ways. But he said it was basically 'set it and forget it'. If a truck is upside down stuck in a crevese when you walk up, just walk far enough away and it will resume it's 'teleport' mode and get where it needs to go.

He has a video on it. Seemed to be pretty legit and a good way to handle both the cpu/gfx load and preventing constant truck malfunctions around the map.

this is the reason i've ALWAYS built enclosed highways for Truck and Tractor routes, if they aren't rendered, they aren't subject to the rules of Satisfactory physics. i've not once had any issues while using Trucks/Tractors ... ever.
