Overclocking and resource requirements
Quick question,

I know OC should primarily be used for miners/oil extractors etc (for the most part).
At times, the math works better to OC production line items (with in reason) vs. creating an additional machine. (I know, debatable).

Question: When you OC a production item (let's say a manufacturer, making H. Speed Connectors).. I totally get the actual production of the item increases relative to the OC amount.. the question, does the raw material/min requirement increase as well OR does raw material/min stays the same and its literally, simply making the end product quicker?

Thanks,

Overclocking just makes the machine make the item faster, and at much higher energy cost.

If you want more items faster, it's recommended to just make more machines instead.

Thanks,

Yes, both input rates and output rates increases with overclocked percentage...but for much higher power.
So as said above, the cost of additional power is not worth it vs just adding more machines

If you overclock it takes things in faster, makes things faster, and spew it out faster. The ratios on the recipes are still the same, though. Save space, but uses more power.

Unless you literally have unlimited power (as in creative mode), the power requirements just isn't worth it (especially on bioburners/coal) because it's not linear.

Should really only overclock miners when you get better belt speeds to maximize mining speed.

Thanks everyone.. all set..

Bonus (completely unrelated question)

The tool belt (where you put the sword, etc).. Drives me nuts using the scroll wheel on my mouse as I seem to over scroll. Are there any commands like ALT-1 or something along those lines to give me the 1st item on tool belt.. (Very handy to have when being chased)

Thanks again,

For me, OCing is of much wider use than miners/extractors particularly given the number of power shards available. Also, on the higher grade of nodes the belts/pipes can't cope with full overclocking.

So, in addition to production buildings, I find OC'ing useful in balancing and also cutting down on the numbers of certain machines and don't see the negatives. That said, I wouldn't OC basic machines such as Constructors simply because it doesn't seem worth it.

Power supply really isn't really an issue unless you go completely wild with OCing and OCing a biomas bunrner when out collecting HDs is a simple way of getting power to some of those pods that need low levels of power.

I took full advantage of OCing. The only issue for me was having to go out and hunt for slugs. But even doing that was fun. OCing allows me to keep things small and compact. So like instead of 20 or 30 machines, i can take it down to 7-10 with OCing. I also include it in my calculations. It's what got me through to tier 7 (which I quit and am waiting for update 4 to go stable)
