Seriously, the Devs said explicitly that Satisfactory is not that type of game.
It is supposed to be a chill game.
Go at your own pace.
No pressure.
Not to mentioned that you'd have to rebuild the whole foundation of the game to balance this.
What is stopping me from building a floating factory, unreachable for all enemies?
Hey, something in my dune desert broke.
Oh no, now something broke in the grass lands.
Now something broke in the red forest.
Didn't I want to build something new over in the rocky desert.
Oh shoot, another attack.
what is fifa and how does a BR mode even factor into the realm of possibilities?
End of the day, the devs are business men and want to make money. If, big if, there is a big enough demand for it, the devs might consider, after the game releases, of course, a possible dlc for combat.
A DLC, mind you, would not affect the base game at all. The devs also have experience in tower defense(Sanctum 1 and 2) I personally hated Santcum 2, as I didnt like being rushed. I always wanted a tower defense exploration style game. Factorio did it well, but its more of a top down view.
And while sure, it might not be possible to add to actual Satisfactory, if there is enough demand, they might make plans for their next game after this one is eventually done.
Many gamers love base buiding and logistics. Many gamers love combat. Call it a product of being born in the 70s, but the scene from Aliens have forever been my addictive wish for any game with combat.
This game looks amazing and would be a real blast watching some auto turrets shooting down a tunnel with a 1000 spiders trying to make its way to you.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQDy-5IQvuU A scene like that I think would be amazing in this game.
So I can atleast post my wish and hope, if they dont add it as a dlc, might explore the option of an open world base building game with turret defenses, or if you know of one, please tell.
But santcum I utterly hated, lack of exploration, rushed between rounds, couldnt appreciate the beauty of that game.
Cheers.
Floating bases? No problem.
Option 1. Enemy just despawn over time. But respawn later with 2x the hp?
Option 2, if they cant get to you, they then fly, only when no option to each you. But you built a space box, now what? Well, no game is perfect, thats your option to do that.
Something broke fixes.
Option 1. AI only targets player. M.A.M. or Awesome Ticket thing. So you can basically make your factory, and enjoy it in peace, while having a fun little kill box while waiting for 5000 smart wires to craft lol. This would resolve that annoying and very real issue(I suffer it in factorio alot lol)
Toggle option for attacks. New Buildable option, No Bugs. Build it, turn it on attacks are off. Or have an option in option menu.
The issues can all be very easily solved without having to change the game. We have spiders already. And those alien dogs that spit fire. Just increase their numbers 100x and make them bee line to the player, and have turrets as a buildable option that do x amount of damage to them when in range.
This is all possible with zero change to the core mechanics of the game. But it would require tweaking the enemy AI, hence why I say DLC. The devs should get paid for any extra work like that, and I personally, would gladly pay another $30 for a dlc that added some comb at options.
But I know chances are about as good as me and Amy Lee getting married
And I can explain to you, in a somewhat satirical way, why this wish is most likely not going to come true, at least not in this game.
To implement a halfway decent combat/defence mode, you would have to rework so many core features of this game.
This would inevitably have an impact on non combat mode (e.g. structural limitations).
I am not saying that I am against a game like this.
I am just saying this is not that game and it most likely will never be.
Yeah I agree the odds are highly unlikely. But hey, 7 days to Die said they would never add multiplayer or support for more than 4 players. It now has multiplayer servers and 40 man servers.
Survive The Night said they would not add single player. They added single player.
Dead Frontier said theyd never add a cross bow. They did.
All I am saying is, with enough play demand(by demand I dont mean kids screaming we want it now) developers will often consider filling that demand.
And yeah, while it might be too much to do for This game, if they ever made Sanctum 3, with the exploration options of this game, but with the tower defense/wave survival of Sanctum 2, I think it would be amazing.
Also thanks for posting some rational counters. always value a good discussion from 2 view points, helps to remove tunnel vision alot of the time, and seems rare to find a good discussion these days. Cheers.
One could argue that if you have to wait for production you simply haven't build enough production.
Knowing CSS I am pretty sure they could come up with some decent mini-games to pass the time.
But this is something that will have to wait untill all the core features are done.
Always remember that we are still in EA.
Something like defend the drop pod maybe?
They have tested similar combat on internal systems an did not like it.
This game never going have tower defense.
lol that would be fun
Yes, they made it very clear*checks the stickies, sees nothing. Checks the FAQ on steam, sees nothing* Yes very clearly they made it known.
I do remember reading somebody(maybe it was you lol) saying that about a year ago or so. But as I argued, many games where devs say one thing and do another. Afterall Early access
Why Early Access?
“Satisfactory has been in development since 2016 and has been played by people for over a year now. We knew from the start that it would be impossible for our team to deliver the best factory building game (in three dimensions) without the help from our ever-growing community. We are deeply involved with our players and listen to every suggestion and feedback we receive. We believe it’s by balancing that with our own vision of the game that we can create the best possible experience.””
I would like to stress this part
We are deeply involved with our players and listen to every suggestion and feedback we receive. We believe it’s by balancing that with our own vision of the game that we can create the best possible experience.””
So it isnt out of the question, to hope, that if enough people show interest that a possible dlc or more creatures could be added. And I am not asking for tower defense, I am just asking for a dlc that adds more creatures, or hell, I would settle for a auto turret that just fires as a way to free up some of my metal ingot storage. Another way of a item sink, turn em into ammo and pew pew pew into the void. While I do agree it is highly unlikely, I dont see anything shutting the door. Atleast not as clearly as you say.
Just because you don't find it doesn't mean they haven't said something explicitly about it. They have one Twitch and two YT channels dedicated to having an open dialogue with their community/fans. They even stream live EVERY week with different things, including an extensive Q&A...
And people ask the same thing over and over, and their answer is the same -> they want a chill -building- game, not a chill -combat- game. :)
PS: Golf, on the other hand, is something that's far more likely they'll add at some point...
I didnt say they didnt say it., he said it was clearly stated. and if it was, its not easily found. I dont watch twitch, I spend my free time playing games, not watching people play games.
Also I am not asking them to change the base game. I am talking ideas for dlcs. besides, they ASKED for our feedback, so regardless of what they said, its on the steam store page. They want my feedback and suggestions. I didnt buy the game on twitch or youtube, and I dont often look up games on there, because they tend to have way too many spoilers that just ruin the surprise for one. I like to see whats coming for myself. I would hope the devs would have a community manager post important videos on the steam page.
But I stated my peace and dont feel I can contribute anything further to this thread, so going to unfollow. I thank you all for your insights on it.
PS: Golf sounds actually fun lol
Now you know - they stream their live talks, not them playing. The stream is live now if you want to check it out: https://www.twitch.tv/coffeestainstudiosdevs
Yeah I asked 3x over the course of an hour. never got a reply from them, turned it off.
