How am I supposed to get oil?

I just unlocked tier 5, ready to go start pumping oil and making plastic. I hauled the resources over to a cluster of oil nodes, and - I can't place the oil extractor building. It doesn't snap to any of the nodes and says something like "must be placed on resource node".

I tried looking it up and there's really not much info. There's one post that says a recent update made it such that you need to use "resource well pressurizers"...which are unlocked at tier 8. Surely this can't be correct?

Never mind...apparently there are two types of oil nodes, which have identical icons on the save editor map. It's the oil wells that need the pressurizer. Might as well leave this up if anyone else is confused by this

There are Crude Oil (Normal), Crude Oil (Pure) and Crude Oil. Description of Oil Exstractor says it can be built on a Oil Node to extract Crude Oil. But why is it not working to build (yes I have all the resources) the Oil Extractor, it won´t snap in place..

You are very likely at a oil well and not at a node. If you see a crack in the ground then this is a well.

Yes I got confused by that too .. found the wells at the top of the cliff overlooking the crater lakes just by exploring, couldnt place the oil extractor on them. It is not well explained in the UI.

Luckily there are a bunch to the east which you CAN use.

A Puddle of black liquid on the ground -> use the oil pump, which is available sooner
A cracked structure on the ground > use the pressurizer, comes later and is more complex with its side equipment ( 5-8 circled side wells ).
