How to make a single line train work in both directions?
I have watched a couple videos on this, but I cannot get my train working. Here's my set up (where <'s are my trains and their facing, and ='s are my freight platforms:

Station A + B < = = >

Station C + D < = = >

My track set-up essentially looks like this:

< = = > - - - - - - - - - < = = >

For the schedule I first tried:
A, B, D, C

I then tried to simplify it:
A, D

These were the most logical choices for me. I tried a few other combos but nothing works... the train just sits there and does not move. I click "dock", and it will load/unload, but it does not move. Based on one of the YouTube videos I watched, I also tried: A, A, D, D, but this did not work either.

Any help working me through this would be appreciated.

Set up your train like <-->
and set up your depots like <---->

At least, it seems to work on a baby setup.

How many trains?
How many stops?

One train line should be made up of:
[<-Station 1]{Platform*N}Track{Platform*N}[Station 2->]

Sounds like yours might be setup:
[Station 1->]{Platform*N}Track{Platform*N}[<-Station 2]

or are you using 2 Station per stop? (Double Locomotive?)

[<-Station 1](empty platform){Platform*N}Track{Platform*N}(empty platform)[Station 2->]

I just have 2 stops, but I have a double station at both stops. My train consists of:
1 forward engine
2 freight cars
1 backwards engine

Each stop consists of:
1 forward train platform
2 freight stations
1 backwards train platform

I have also tried to have just 1 train platform per stop, be then I get an error advising it cannot go to the next stop.

I have done the same layouts in those videos -- they are the videos I was referring to -- and it still does not work. I have done so many different combinations and still nothing works.

I have flipped around the train station facings many times too -- still does not help. They really need to fix in-line trains.

If the train station arrows point towards the rail it won't work. Make sure they point away from the rail so the trains drive into the arrow. Also, don't trust a train station to connect to the rail automatically. Always delete the rail and connect it manually.

I have tried just having a single train station at either end (each pointing away from the track) but this does not work either.

Some magical combination of deleting stations and trains and replacing them about 5 times in a row now has it working.

I know this post is a few years old, but I'm hoping you can remember what you did. I just want to know what your timetable looks like.

Track <A-B> ---Train------ <C-D>
Train settings A>B>D>C

If the train has 2 engines, 1 at each end, facing opposite directions, you just need A and D. The curved parts of the stations should face outwards.
