Long range electricity
An issue keeps coming up whenever I start a new mine far away from my "base". If I wanted to power it without needing to keep coming back to refill biomass burners, I'd either need a new coal generator, or I have to run a wire all the way over to the base. The second is way easier, but the problem is the wires going all the way across the map aren't super pretty. It feels like there should be a better way to do this...

Use individual/dedicated biomass burners for isolated setups, rather than trying to put a bunch in a box. This way they can be individually decommissioned when you get coal up and running.

But yeah, running 10 foot power poles everywhere is tedious. I'm hoping for high-tension wire towers with longer runs. The good news is you can use the elevated landscape features to keep the poles off the ground (because they will invariably be right in the way later on), but sometimes, you have no other choice.

Then again, underground power lines could be a thing, if you could trench and lay insulated pipe.

There's really no other option except for trains once you've unlocked those (they carry power throughout the tracks).

But in the meantime, you're going to have to either build a ton of biomass burners or run wires all over the place before you can get trains, which totally negates their benefit as a solution to the current problem.

You can make them pretty. I use them as street lights. All my bases are physically connected no matter where on the map they are so they're all geometrically correct and aligned, so I have roads going everywhere and along the sides are my power poles.

But yeah, unless you want to set up dedicated power solutions for all your bases (you might be able to with geothermal), you'll need to run power lines everywhere. There are also mods that add wind/solar, etc.

Since you'd (probably) already run a conveyor belt across the landscape, you might just put the power line next to it. I think that a dedicated type of long-range power poles (8 or 12 meters tall and maybe 1 quickwire plus 2 wire per distance unit to wire them up) would be a nice addition to the power infrastructure..
Edit: Or how about a stackable power line?

Or maybe add a wire attachment to the conveyor pole. an upgraded stackable conveyor pole?

There is a mod that will remove the need to connect everything with power lines, though it makes it impossible to control parts of the factory if you run out of juice and need to close parts off to be able to restart.

Now that's a great idea! :winter2019cooldog:

After running the poles, load your game into the Interactive Map and offset their Z position by -795 cm. Now, only the tip top remains, which can still be accessed later.

Alternatively, lay a foundation as you go and snap a wall outlet instead. You can still mostly see the outlet and wire but only from up close.

If you're linking to somewhere that doesn't need much interaction, like a far away Quartz base that you just need for research purposes, the best thing to do is downclock everything.

Clock everything to 10% production rate and your power demand falls off a cliff to the point it would probably run for weeks IRL without running dry. It depends how often you really want to return.

If you're looking to power high demand mines, unfortunately you don't have much choice.

I really wouldn't mind seeing a long range transmission pole, equivalent to Factorio's. Can only run 2 connections, but you don't need as many.

Definitely would like a long range tower (cough like factorio cough) would be great when dealing with satellite bases in remote areas.

Yes, I would like to see a larger tower(s) that can handle more than 4 connections - maybe 6 - 8 connections. Would be nice to build like a sub-station.

Sorry, my bad. I was not very descriptive - at all. I do know that there are other power poles. I was thinking something like this......

It's just a visual thing for me.
