water extractor and refineries.
So i got 1 water extractor @ 100% running 1 pipeline and connected to 6 refineries with pure iron, needing 20 water p/m. Now i want to built 6 more refineries but can i overclock my water extractor to 200% and connect 6 more refineries on the same pipeline? My siple mind said yes, but liquids in this game behaves different then belts, hence my question. I can built it and see for myself, but i rather ask first before i waste my time.

It should be fine. Just using simple values. Water Extractor does 120/min which can support 6 pure iron's just fine. OC'ing it to 200% ups it to 240/min so it can support 12 pure iron's just fine off a single pipe which can support 300/min. You can actually support 15 pure iron refs just fine on 1 pipe and 1 water extractor at 250%. (gives 300/min which is the max for a mk1 pipe)

Yes it is possible

It should be that simple, but to be safe I'd overclock the water extractor a little more just to be sure you had enough.

Great! thanks for the answers. That saves me from laying another pipeline.

You're better off building another water extractor rather than overclocking. 200% OC uses more than 200% power. In general, I only overclock miners. For everything else, if I need to hit a specific production value, I build an extra one and underclock instead.

Building machines is basically free, power usually has to be budgeted. :) In your case, use 2 extractors at 100% and one at 50%, which will fill a Mk1 pipe, and let you run 15 refineries. This costs less than 50MW, vs. 87MW for one extractor at 250%.

Power is practically unlimited once you hit coal, and the power supplies are infinite, so the cost ratio is inconsequential. All that matters is manufacturing efficiency.

In my current map, power is only "unlimited" (more or less) because I spent about three weeks building a gigantic nuclear sub-factory that can make enough fuel to support over 100 nuclear power plants. Even then, I'm limited to about 24GW until I can bring some other parts of the factory online to replace small bootstrap setups.

If you're still on coal, each coal plant you build is limited by your extraction limit and the coal nodes nearby, and the possibility of having to spend a few hours finding space for/building another coal power plant somewhere else. And that's assuming you don't need the coal/oil for something else.

The question i used was a rather simple one, as i already have 24 refineries, 4 pipeline and 4 WE's. Now i can OC them and rebuilt a small part of my pipeline at the refineries, or place more WE's and re-do the whole pipeline. I rather OC them than rebuilding it all.
