Do trees grow back?
If I chainsaw all the trees, will they grow back?
There seems to be an annoying early game shortage of biofuel.

No, but creatures respawn if you don't build around their spawn area so you can farm their drops for biomass if you researched it.

You should be trying to get to tier 3 to get coal power asap.

To help with that, make more burners than necessary so you have to refill them less often, and make you less likely to trip your breakers.

If you have an assembly line pumping out solid biofuel, a 5-minute trip into the forest with your chainsaw should give you enough wood/leaves to work in peace for several hours.

You need to expand your Biomass farming area. There's waaaaaaaaaaaaay more than enough trees and bushes to harvest, more than you'll ever want to farm on the entire continent. Get to Tier 3 and go to coal power ASAP. After that you'll be blowing up entire forests and laying waste to all that potential biofuel that you'll never need.

Trees grow back. As long as you dont have any buildings near them. Ive been taking it easy on another playthrough and have cut down so many trees for my biomass production and when I come back from a logging run, the trees that I cleared near my settlement are already growing back.

Animals respawn in areas away from your buildings. Go on a hunting trip and you get lots of biomass from alien carapace and alien organs. I try to keep plants intact since they do not come back. Even says so on the wiki so ignore the people that claim it does come back: https://satisfactory.gamepedia.com/Flora

actually, not.
there's so much of foliage around, and if you already have the chainsaw you can convert all you harvest into compressed biofuel wich is WAY more effective...
I even unlocked some techs more and went on expeditions after researching coal and before building my first coal generator. and the first was even experimental and only for itself, I kept other factory modules running with biofuel quite a while...

Then there is a bug regarding this as I've harvested the same area of trees 4 times since my new game started, I know this 100% certain as its near my base and always has a fallen log over a rock, it respawns at the same frequency as bushes. Certain areas don't seem to grow back, but others do.

I have trees respawning in the middle of my coal power plant. It's a bug because sometimes they are invincible.

I have to reload the save to cut them down again.

I wanted to comment in here here to add another note to confirm this statement is false. Berry-fruiting plants and all trees and bushes respawn every time I re-load the save again. At least out at my factory in the desert. I could even make a youtube video demonstrating it later if necessary but it totally does work and they all do respawn. My current playthrough has about 500 hours of play time in it in the desert and I've mined the trees and bushes outside my factory at least 20+ times. It's always there. Even mining it with the chainsaw.

See that hasn't happened for me oddly. I get that the plants re-grow the berries and nuts but I never got anything to come back once it's gone. I've ran a few Beryl Nut plants over with the tractor setting up automated driving waypoints and even if I stopped the tractor they don't come back on game load. Must be a specific bug in certain parts of the map or under certain circumstances.

If you ignore this bug the plants are not supposed to come back. So it's best to plan ahead as if that is the case, and for me and the newer game I started that mean just stockpiling lots of alien carapace and alien organs which supplies more than enough biomass for my needs until I get to coal power.

Or it could just be that when they wrote the wiki entry that plants didn't grow back but (possibly? I'm not sure?) perhaps the developers coded it in to an update and didn't list that change in the patch notes and plants are supposed to grow back now but the wiki wasn't updated.

Remember the wiki is run by community members, not the developers. Not everything in the wiki is 1:1 exactly how it works in the game.

The Devs DID change it so that fruit grows back, you can read it in the patch notes. Unfortunately, I am far too lazy to go find the right post but I did read it. Fruit only grows back on plants that are left in tact.

If you destroy a plant with a tractor/chainsaw/whatever, that plant will not grow back. So of course its fruit won't either.

Also, quite a few trees and bushes will not grow back. It seems to be random which trees respawn. And they seem to only respawn upon reloading a save, not during an actual playsession.

Please read the post by me and the other post by thethomasgeorge. Fruit-bearing bushes do grow back even if destroyed with chainsaw and/or vehicles. I've seen it happen, repeatedly.

I have seen bushes and trees grow back many times, never the fruit-bearing plants though. But since you have, it can be confirmed that NOTHING can be confirmed around this topic.

Plants have a mind of their own. Beware.
