Programmable Splitter
I've done a topic search and I know this has come up a few times now over the last 12+ months, but the Programmable Splitter is... terrible.

I had hoped for something at least similar to a 'Diamond Pipe' in Tekkit that allowed for simple ratio splitting, but.. apparently not? There is almost not point at all putting the effort in to unlock these things and create them, you can achieve very much the same thing with the 'Smart Splitter'.

As such I'm unable to streamline my base any further without clunking it up with a bunch of splitters and belts.

Not sure if the developers ever read these forums, but if they do, please allow for ratios with the Programmable Splitter, it can't be that difficult a feature to implement? A 'modder' managed to do it inside Minecraft using janky Java, surely it can't be that complicated to create here? Unless Unity doesn't like logic gates? Dunno, I'm not a coder.

Failing that if anyone knows of any good mods to make the Splitters function more like something from Tekkit please let me know.

Yeah, currently the programmable splitter just allows you to cut down on the number of smart splitters, nothing fancy like altering the ratios. It has its uses, but they are very niche. Giving it a ratio setting would certainly massively expand that niche.

In the beginning I thought this would be a needed feature but over 400 hours into the game I have yet to find a scenario which I could not handle with what is in the game.

Oh I have no doubt I could 'handle' the situation, I just feel logic gates would be far more efficient and well.... logical.

You could compress down several splitters into a single unit that also control flow so that you might have more of a resource going to one form of manufacturing over the other.

I got 100 hours out of the game. I'm happy with that. I may look at the Advanced Logistics mod or I may just move along. Haha, or maybe I'll just fire up Tekkit again to scratch the logic gate itch.

The point is: all this rationing and precise splitting isn't needed in the first place.
A smart splitter with an overflow setting is enough to handle almost any scenarion.
Set direction A to any and direction B to overflow.
Construct a manifold in direction A - done.
The machines will take what they need.
Everything else will go to direction B.
You have to be very careful adding advanced abilities like exact ratio splitting. I'm not necessarily saying it would be a bad idea, but it would fundamentally change (and hugely simplify) the logistical challenge.

This is essentially a problem solving game, so giving players a very easy method to solve those problems is probably not a good move.

Fair, then perhaps I missed the point of the game. I saw a Tekkit variant, sandbox world, advanced technology, etc. I didn't consider it might be a 'puzzle' to be solved. In that case, yes, I'd agree adding something like ratios and logic gates might make it too easy, and again, change the direction of the game.

Having said that, I was here for the fancy tech, not the problem solving. But that's my problem not the games.

If they're adding valves for liquids then why not allow more precise control of physical product flow?

While they're at it, they can allow us to designate which parts of the splitter are inputs/outputs so they can be used as intersections. Awesome.

What
They're already planned. It's just a feature that hasn't made it in the game yet.

Well that is interesting news thank you - but it doesn't change my opinion on the matter at all. I believe the current ruleset for mergers and splitters to be rather integral to the mathematical / problem solving / logistical side of the game and that CSS should be very cautious about changing it.
Hahaha. "The programmable splitter is kind of s##t",straight from the developers mouth.

I really enjoyed my ~90 hours with the game, I'll just pause my play through until that update eventually drops, then resume and checkout all the other cool new things released as well.

Thanks for the video link.
