Help with loading trains.
I have spend a couple hours trying to figure out how to load a train with no success. I have an engine with 2 freight cars. I have a train station, a freight station and a fluid freight station. The train station is powered. The freight station has cargo in it, and the fluid stations has fuel. I have toggle the "load/unload" button to "load" on each station.

I have parked the train/cars in each station, but nothing happens.

Can someone please tell me how to get this working.

So your train doesnt move at all?
I'm assuming it doesnt
1) is your train layout a shuttle (in a line) or a loop?
2) is the load button yellow on the loading platforms ? (They should be)
3) did you set autopilot on ? If it is, does it say "unable to reach next stop" ?

I figured it out. I had to "dock it". Apparently there is a very specific area in the train station it has to stop in, in order to get the dock option. If you are a few pixels outside of this "dock zone" then it will not give you the option.

Ah yes, so the train was moving but it didnt load on the first round-trip. It's a bit annoying but it'll load after its first empty round-trip. Another workaround is to spawn it a bit before the loading station so that it makes its first stop where you want

OK...anyone have any other pointers for me? Still can't figure out how to get a train to load or how to get it to self drive.... I have an end to end (shuttle) layout.... I have two train stations each with 4 Freight Loaders for my 4 freight cars. I have an engine at either end so it can go bi-directionally. I have a platform at the end of each line so each engine stops at the platform and lines up the freight loaders to the freight cars. I have 'load' toggled for each Freight loader on one end and 'unload' toggled for the other four at the other end. Still will not load no matter what I do.

I also cannot get the train to self drive. When I toggle this option it tells me the opposite station is not reachable but I can manually drive it all day long. No idea what's going on but super frustrated at this point. Should not be this difficult to figure out how to load a train at one station, drive to the next, unload then drive back to the first station and load up again. Rinse and repeat.

Are the stations pointing the right way? They should point outward, away from the end of your track.

if it says not reachable AND your stations are pointing outwards AND if you get a message to say destination unreachable then you have a gap in the rail track , walk the line and look at all the joints , its easy to leave a gap that you dont notice , unlike conveyors the tracks stay blue whilst laying them unless you do a odd curve then they go red.

That why you can drive it yourself but not on auto

Yes, each station is facing outward. I've selected the item I want to load/unload at each station as well. Still tells me it can't reach the second station.

Trains can only drive "forward". To have self-driving function on a bi-directional track, you will need a locomotive at each end.

The station has an arrow during placement; you will need that arrow to be facing the same direction the train's locomotive considers to be "forward" when traveling to that station.

So you are saying, MJS that it's possible to have a gap in the track that prevents auto drive but I can still drive it manually just fine? How the hell am I suppose to find a gap like that? If I can try it fine manually then there shouldn't be any gap...?

umop- Got an engine on each end and both station arrows are pointing outwards

Yeah, that's not a thing.

If you have a gap in the track, driving manually will stop you dead at the point where the separation exists, even if you're going full speed at the time.

I'm thinking you have some directional issues in your setup. Make sure your locomotive(s) are able to drive "forward" from their perspective to the stations, and that the stations are pointing the same direction as "forward" from the locomotive's point of view on approach, and it should "just work", assuming a single track and a single train.

I sent you a friend request. I've got a few minutes between other projects, I can jump in and give you a hand.

Yes, both engines are facing "forward" and the same direction as the station arrows. I managed to get the train loaded and drive it manually but now it won't unload.

So I've got a train of nuclear waste just sitting where I can't do anything with it

I don't remember how to access steam friends list while in game...

Shift-TAB, by default.
