if you select the 'spawn locations' it circles the 4 of them.
If you're ok with skyfactory (Floating foundations), the northern forest spawn (top middle); and then run to the top left of that spawn circle.. there are 4 pure iron nodes, 2 pure copper nodes, 2 pure limestones, 2 pure quartz all right there to work with... You just have to build skyfactory due to the terrain jutting up everywhere.
Note; this website also works as a save editor if you want to do things like enable the map from the start (ingame), or skip the hard drive exploration part of the game by starting with 100 harddrives, or just having all the research done already... It also has access to enabling creative modes (no power requirements, no cost to build, etc..)
This is the best for stuff in a small area, but I prefer the Rocky Desert area, The far north-east pure iron nodes if you're looking at a map. I always expand out to the place quoted when I hit coal, and then south along the coastline for oil. Northern Forest is great for everything in a small area, but for some reason Rocky Desert always works out great for a starting area for me.
Finding that area actually deflated a lot of the fun for me from the game, because everything is so close, not much logistics involved. On top of what you mentioned, there is coal, oil, caterium, and oil all extremely close by. Feels cheaty.
The desert dunes area is really good for ... 'new players' who have good 'mechanics knowledge' ... you just have to get to coal power fast enough before you run out of trees.
All of the iron and copper production can happen in that tiny space, I like building there. Just around the corner (or ramp off the side of the cliff) is your quartz and just down the hill from that is a coal node you can use for steel on the flat area between the coal and quartz. Oil is just down the cliff past a hard drive, there's coal across the waterway for power. There's also copper down there and 2 above where your iron nodes are. Just past the copper nodes is another hard drive (you can put a water extractor in that pond too) and if you keep going across the highway you'll find sulfur down by the river and above there are a couple normal caterium nodes. Beyond the caterium nodes and across the water way above is a couple pure oil nodes. There's also several hydro-thermal vents nearby when you unlock geothermal. And we don't even need to talk about limestone, that stuff is everywhere, but there's a few pure and normal nodes nearby.
But, once you get into the oil stage (there's only 3 spots nearby), you have to expand and there's a good spot for that just up the highway from there where there's like 7+ more pure nodes ;)
But you're definitely going to have to explore if you want any aluminum/bauxite and uranium.
4 actual maps would be so much better, I hope the modding side of the game is heavily geared to wards making custom maps.
The map currently is awesome, dont get me wrong, but its is a thing that you get to learn over time, like your backyard, depending on your hours I guess.
So new and more maps would really be something this game would get a huge reviews boost from, for sure.
Old and new players would LOVE that.
Especially when the maps are hand made things of beauty, unique and very enticing.
In Satisfactory you ''want'' to go explore, the devs should really take full advantage of that.
And make the flying ray, edible ! LOL !
I wouldn't hold your breath.
While it would be nice to see custom maps (or extensions to the existing map) through mods, I doubt it's going to be easy to do, and it would take a lot of effort to make it into an actually interesting map.
But its nice to dream.
Willing isn't the problem though.
The devs have made this beautiful, varied landscape with loads of hidden features and loads of things balanced for jump height with/without Blade Runners (and presumably Jetpack max height). Not to mention the differences between the highest and lowest points.
It's a very high standard to stack up against.
Its time consuming yes, but hard, not really.
As nice as this current map is, it has faults dude.
It has areas it could be better.
Like any map.
But to just assume no one else has any talent to build maps is, well lets say its just you that will miss out with that attitude.
Building maps is easy with the right tools.
It all really depends on the amount of modding the devs allow, like unlocking those map assets and giving us a terrain generator and way to splice map chunks etc.
Its all about how good the tools are dude, not talent, there is an absolute abundance of talent out there if you just tap into it, it can do so much more work for you for free, quality work,
But of coarse, that only requires one thing, an open mind.
Building maps is not easy. My first maps were trash, i spent a lot of time and effort working out how to make them better, and how people interact with games.
Doesn't matter about how good the tools are, if you just end up with a million first maps.
