Copper wire- which recipe to use?
I'm wondering which copper wire recipe those of you have advanced to tier 7 are using, and why? It looks like Caterium wire is the most efficient, but i don't want to commit to that and then discover that I need the Caterium for something else once I've unlocked tier 7 and more alternate recipes. Any advice is appreciated.

Really depends on what you intend to use. I'd advise you to use copper and caterium for both your wire and quickwire. The efficiency gain is tremendous

I am using iron wire....meaning I only need to tap onto iron nodes for wire and cables

Do you mean the alternate recipes that combine copper and caterium ingots to make wire/quick wire? I set up the new factory in the SW of the grassy plains, so decent copper deposits are a bit hard to come by, but i can probably make that work. I'd need to go farm those recipes first though. Thing is, i have a pure caterium node right behind my base which would make setting everything up to just use caterium simple, and the map shows there is another one just a bit to the NW. As usual the problem is that i don't know how much caterium I'm going to end up using later, so deciding whether to use it now or save it for something else is difficult.

I agree, it really depends on what you want and what you need.

To my needs I actually don't need that much quickwire, but I do need much much more wire, so I convert a lot over to wire... especially since I use the stitched plate recipe.

And adding water I get even more wire! :D

I've got the iron wire recipe, i just don't like the output per minute for it and the power cost is the highest of any of the recipes. Once again, i could make it work, but other then eliminating the need for copper I'm not so sure it's worth the speed reduction and energy costs.

Sansee,

I've been pouring over the wiki looking a the recipes, but it only takes me so far since i don't know how many of each of the products that use wire/cable I'm going to need/want to produce yet. Right now I'm just trying to get everything in place so that i can automate everything up through the tier 6 parts that i need for the space elevator to unlock tier 7, and to leave myself in a good place to make those tier 7 parts without needing to seriously expand or rebuild my production lines. I guess i've been going about this backwards, since i'm trying to build the inputs for everything without knowing just how much of any of it i will need.

Yeah, personally I think the iron to wire recipe is not worth it, only as a last resort.

Looking at the quickwire table one doesn't seem to need too much of it (only limiter and HS-connector, for normal recipe), that's why I'm using much of it to wire, now at least.

I might change later for alt-computers, but I'll see how the numbers flow...

I understand that. I just build and try to make it work, if it doesn't I just change it. But then again, I build for full belts, and then adding more belts as I need.

I'm just trying to think ahead and build it "right" the first time so that i don't have to go back and rebuild constantly like i did in factorio. I designed this factory with the idea that I'd be able to increase production by just increasing inputs to each floor and adding a few more machines to the line to make the outputs with no change in layout. I'm only producing 1-2 things per floor, so everything is designed to flow up to the floors making the more complex products. The problem is that i can't change 1 thing on a floor without changing everything on the floor, and that i can't produce the complex parts on higher floors until the basic layout and recipe decisions on the lower floors are finalized.

In this particular case, i have to decide how I'm going to make wire, and once the decision is made and i have the wire flowing upwards changing anything will be a major pain.

I ended up going with Grandaddy purple's suggestion and am using the caterium/copper recipes for both wire and quickwire. Took me most of the day to redesign the layout, but both are now being produced on the same floor at a decent rate (450 wire and 350 quickwire pm).
