Tank Truck
it seems rather odd that they made tanks for trains whilst not adding a tank style truck for the new fluid systems... in the interests of building neat bases, rather than a large bank of floating sea rig style coal generators i would have liked one at my disposal

I would guess it will be added in the later update, since it seems odd to leave trucks out as you say. Maybe there were some additional challenges with making it work with truck stations and they weren't able to make it on time for the experimental release. Like, for example, the fact that truck stations already have 3 I/O, I can hardly imagine fitting two extra for fluids on that tiny building, it would require a model overhaul and maybe even adding new types of trucks.

I am cruious to see how they handled it with trains, since I didn't get to that point on my new save yet.

yea im not on trains yet either, and it as you say require a different truck station which had 3 fluid I/O ports instead of the square solid resouces ones....

so maybe two types of station is the answer if they do them...

meanwhile i kinda resolved the issue i was trying to by finding a viable water source next to the grassfield start location which i have now tested and it pumps water from it

link onedrive piccy of water source near grassfields, on right of screen....

now just gotta build a few coal generators there, and transport the coal to HQ as i did pre update #3

and job done....

i tell ya something else, having both the water and the coal intakes on the coal generators right next to each other creates a ton of connection issues, should have had the water on the backside, and the coal port on the front...

I see what you mean, but I don't consider those issues. I actually like when things are less straight forward, i makes you think more about creative solutions. So they are more like challenges for us to figure out rather than issues in my mind.

But I am curious, you said "tons of issues", what kind? Personally when I first saw it I simply run the pipes above the belts so there's a slight elevation, it allowed me to neatly connect pipes above the conveyors. I've also seen somebody run coal input behind the coal plants and rout it in between them, which is another neat solution. Do you maybe have a specific setup in mind and you're fidning it hard to accomplish because of this? On the surface the new connection system doesn't seem to require any complex solutions, so I am confused why would you say that it created a ton of issues for you.

that was the issue, im still playing with these new features, that you mention raised belts, after posting i ended up wrapping the pipes around the back of each generator so they looked neat on the front, just the reverse of the belts i guess...

im still playing with it, but not to offend any youtubers, but i dont like making those types of bases, my goal is really neat construction which im sure you understand in this game is often a headache...

im sure in time i will figure out a nice enough method ;)
its just aesthetics issues i suppose...

I'm less of an aesthetics person, but I also like when things look neat and are aligned nicely. My problem is where I can't create a 100% efficient production line, when things just don't align... For example when the recipie needs 18.75 iron plates for no reason at all. WHYYY? I learned to live with it eventually and gave up on the dream of 100% mathematically efficient factory. It seems the devs didn't want things to add up nicely on purpose, they wanted to complicate math to people a little bit so management is more difficult.

my friend is like you, thats why when i play online with him i let him do the lines, and i go out exploring and set up transport links...

in my singleplayer game however, im more like everything has to look really OCD cool and fit in with the world, everything has to look really neat, so as you can picture water and pipes are making that twice as hard now

I also have OCD when it comes to my factory... It is a pain, I know :). If you are interested, I got a decent looking setup for my coal factory. I have 6 generators setup back to back so that have their inputs facing each other. (so 3 per row). Between them, I dropped the floor with one large foundation so that you can walk between them, and underneath the generators. I run the pipes in the middle between them in the "ditch" and vertically up to their ports. The coal I run right underneath the generators, with splitters pointing to the pipes, and then run a conveyor lift up and back into their ports. It looks very neat with vertical conveyor lift and vertical pipes next to each other. Where the generators start, I also added a pump to push water through quicker. If my math is correct, you can only feed 6 generators with 1 pipe network so I use this as a template setup for more power nodes.

it'd make sense to have it early game. also, who doesnt want to dump a tanker truck full of gasoline off a cliff into one of the factories and make a huge explosion?
Shane Feb 18, 2020 @ 1:18am
okay i admit never built like that myself, but its some nice food for thought, thx
i never thought of adding lift to the input I/Os

im a fan of keeping the pipes and belts the absolute shortest possible, so you know the coal near the lake in grass fields, i will literally setup truck stops to transport the coal from those nodes a few feet to the power station at side of the lake in that location

im that bad with this... i get angry if my power poles dont fit in lmao

ooooh OCD under control, after hours wasted....

I have finally resolved it by burying the pipes under the ground using the Junction Cross Sections, the result is neat pipes that blend into the terrain, like so...

im loving it !!

Build on foundations. Its neater and acts as a guide to place stuff too.

That is one of my coal plants for example. It has two decks of foundations. Lower deck has the coal conveyors and pipe junctions for the pipe splitting.

Looks really nice, thanks for the inspiration. Question: What are the fluid tanks doing in this setup?

Those are dual purpose.

1. Buffer. Just incase something goes wrong, I mess up and over-build and tax power grid, etc

2. This one is similar to no.1, but so far a few hotfixes have been released that fix water related bugs. One side effect was you had to rebuild your water extractors as current ones broke. They give me appx 4 mins to respond. And now that my hypertube network is more robust, that isnt too much of an issue.

Also I think it looks better with tanks, a tad bit more realistic.

well that dont work out so good in the end because of flow rates ;(
