What conveyor Mk do you use the most?
My go-to is Mk 3. Have TOOOONS of 3. I only use anything higher when Mk 3 can't keep up. Next most common would be the basic Mk 1 cause a lot of things don't produce faster than 60/min so no need for anything faster.

I don't think I have a single segment of Mk 2 in my world anymore.

No matter if you build only mk5 or different tier belts, in the end you'll have used the same amount of items. Whether you build 500 meters of Mk5 or 100 of each, it'll take 5 slots of your inventory either way
Dont know if you were referring to belts but this was the topic so
Yes belt transport stuff. From output to imput. Unless you build belt and factory on different time you will need to stack for the build and the transport of goods. Usually 5 slot of materiel for belt is not even near enough. If you near your core base it not much of a problem but if you building far away. Running back to core base is very tedious just to keep building. I was only discrediting the idea that we unlock so many inventory slot that we barely need. When actually we unlock so much need of different materiel that 3/4 of all the stuff in game are needed regularly.

Hell, if anything, a Mk V could actually have the least impact. The item spends less time on a belt needing its location to be tracked in case the player moves close enough to render it. It gets to its destination faster than becomes another number in an array (or whatever it uses to track storage containers, etc.).
Do remember that your computer rendering the game world has to update the items on the belts at the speed they are moving on the belts. Things produced at 60 items/min on a MK5 belt fly along quickly and whiz through vs moving slowly on a MK1 belt. You can obviously see that with your eyes. Like I said above: There's no point in arguing this because no one has done performance comparisons to say definitively if it impacts anything or not. We're both just guessing so there's no point in assuming anything without facts or data.

I have only unlocked Mk. 3 but I use them exclusively. I don't bother with Mk.1 or Mk. 2 belts anymore.

once you go 5 there's no turning back

If you use lower tier belts, you're going to end up with bottlenecks you didn't realize you had in places. Best to just place the highest belt you can in most cases. That way, when you upgrade production 6 hours later and need more throughput on some of the items, you already have it.

I exclusively use the BEST BELT available. Right now it is the MK5. Because if one day you need to upgrade good luck to be sure to find all part of the belt and not miss a little segment and you will be very annoyed by that. YOU CANNOT GO WRONG BY USING MAX BELT EVERYWHERE even it is most of the time useless... That is just my way...

When you have a new belt available you're most likely to revamp your base anyway. My alclad production was fed by 960 bauxite/min (2 Mk4 from 2 pure nodes), which were dealt with 16 underclocked refineries. When I got Mk5 i needed 26 refineries to deal with my 1560 input
