solid biofuel > liquid biofuel ?
greetings folks.

one of my offshore mini factories still runs on biofuel so i often have to come back and resupply it with biofuel.
since the consumption is so low i don't really put much thought into it (12.2MW)

now i gotten myself some liquid biofuel and thought i'd use that. now i noticed that it's output is worse than solid biofuel.

to give you an idea.

solid biofuel 11.9MW - 37.9 sec 63% effi
liquid biofuel 11.9MW - 63.1 sec 63% effi

now obviously liquid biofuel looks to be better. but this is not counting that liquid only stacks upto 100 while solid biofuel stacks upto 200.
it also costs allot less to make obviously.
so if i were to stack them

200 Solid biofuel lasts 7,580s
100 Liquid biofuel lasts 6,310s

that is a full 1200 seconds longer! (21minutes)

so either the solid biofuel is far better. or the liquid is simply bad.
specially with the production investment it's far better to use solid biofuel.

so yea it probably needs to be buffed. :slimetabby:

Both are bad, you should automate your power generation and put everything on the same grid. Even if you have offshore minifactories that sit at an outstanding 6km away from your main base, just drag poles all the way there (unless you really don't intend to make those minifactories bigger, in that case you could make an argument in setting up some coal generators provided you have water and a coal node you won't use otherwise nearby).
Liquid biofuel is dog sheet, forget about it. Everything that starts with "bio" is early game, after that it's time to destroy the planet

The primary advantage of liquid biofuel vs solid biofuel as far as power generation is concerned is that liquid biofuel can be burned in fuel generators. This allows you to automate the whole process from biomass all the way down to power generation. At that point, you only have to feed raw materials (instead of feeding raw materials *and* hand-feeding every biomass burner), stack size becomes a non-issue, and the net power gain takes precedence.

It's still very weak compared to all the options where you don't have to hunt down raw material, of course.
Use Geothermal for critical machines like miners and water and oil extractors to keep your power plants running.
There's no real reason to use biofuel after the early game. Setting up liquid biofuel is a wasted effort on multiple levels. Without power priority the biofuel can only become a weak point for the gird, because it's always getting drained out and can't be kept useful as a reserve. Put that effort into more fuel generators.
Indeed, I came to the same conclusion, though mine was in the context of fuel to use for a car since I would very much agree with the others here that for powering a factory, Biofuel in any form is probably best abandoned once you get coal.

As a vehicle fuel however, Solid Biofuel remains a great option for fuelling your personal transportation, since it's energy per stack isn't beaten until Turbofuel and/or Batteries. With the rather bizarre exception of Colour Cartridges, which have twice the energy per stack of Solid Biofuel.

Wondered about that as well. What are those leaves, solid rocket fuel? :D
Yea these color cartridges are under rated. They are really easy to mass after a bit of yellow flower "picking" (read chainsawing)
I had 3 tractors running on Fuel, Liquid Biofuel, and Coal all at once. Liquid Biofuel was OK, but having to stop what you're doing to hunt down more leaves/wood/carapace/organs to make more solid biomass was annoying. It also burned faster than Coal or Fuel, and that was on a tractor that made the shortest trips. Fuel and Coal are set-and-forget. Turbo Fuel is still the best, though.

Just wish it could be used in the Jet Pack for either longer or faster flight.
