The game is essentially all grind at the moment, but it doesn't feel like a grind as every bit of progress has a tangible effect.
There is only one map, and technically speaking it's probably about the same size as a typical NMS planet, but the trade-off is that the handcrafted map in Satisfactory is much more interesting and varied.
That is a seriously underrated feature in modern games. Precedural generation just makes everything different, in the same way, and so nothing feels different at all.
No Man's Sky at its heart is an exploration game. You go around finding new planets, new creatures, and new aliens (note that "new" is subjective due to there not really being all that much to see that's truly different, but the procedural generator tries to make it seem like there is). Crafting mainly served as a means to an end, improving your ability to explore, and survival elements were there to make it more of a challenge. Since they've added things like base building, factions, and multiplayer there's more to do now, but in my opinion it's not very interesting and kind of takes away from the exploration part of the game. Even if you're looking for a futuristic space exploration game I wouldn't recommend it unless you've already played Outer Wilds, which does that MUCH better by giving you more of a plot and motivation.
Satisfactory is a crafting/automation/base building game. You craft things, to be able to craft more things, to craft other things which can craft things for you, and so on. Exploration serves mainly to find new materials or recipes for crafting, and survival again to add more of a challenge. I don't know what their plans are for the future of this game. Maybe they'll go the Factorio route and add more defense/limited resource elements, maybe they'll add more detailed combat and traversal ala something like Journey to the Savage Planet, maybe they'll add something completely different or just more of what's already in the game... Personally I consider Factorio the superior game in this specific genre, but Satisfactory is still a great game already.
... That depends what you're planning to do with it.
I would personally ask the following.
"Which is better? Factorio or Satisfactory?"
To which I'll answer, both are equally good. :3
Cheese.
Yup. You can make a statue and then eat it after.
