More vertical mobility is needed
Starting off in the grasslands there are a TON of cliffs and frankly not a ton of ways to navigate them. I know there is a jetpack unlocked later but more early game options are needed as the jump pads simply do not throw you far enough in a lot of cases and are a pain to work with. I think the obvious early game solution is a grappling hook that lets you climb the cliffs and elevators for more regular traversal of larger cliffs the jump pads simply will not let you climb. I also think late game some kind of VTOL is needed to allow for fast movement across the map.

most of the cliffs i've come across so far have some way to get up them. sometimes it's rocks/vines positioned in a way you can jump/climb to the top and sometimes you're just not approaching it from the right direction.

personally i tend to build ramp structures up since i'm likely to want to bring the resources back down anyways

To quote some random people from the internet: "Just build, lol".

Most do yes but sometime the distance is insane. for example the only way up the cliff at the bottemless pit in the grasslands area is through a cave but it is about 5k to get through it with a ton of enemies in there and the top is the nearest quartz to my base. Had to build a staircase but even that takes like 3 min to climb and is not an option for vehicles.

Well, that's the point. Build a staircase. No VTOL needed.

And if you want a fast, horizontal way of travel there are also options for that already. Vehicles, hypertubes, and even conveyor belts all accomplish this. The game has options for all of your problems, you only need to use them. And it would make no sense to have all that early in the game, you need to work up to it.

Hyper tubes are basically late game and while I have not unlocked them yet I have to assume expensive and that STILL does not solve the problem of getting vehicles up and down these cliffs.

Even during my first playthrough i completely disregarded the jumping pads and still overlook it, this is supposed to send you off high enough to make it worth, i would have considered it to be worth if you could use it as a catapult, and then use parachute to gliden but it's barely good enough for casual jumps.

right now i believe the jetpakc is the best option for cliff traveling during exploration, but even jetpack may require an upgrade with the fuel limitation

i mean, people build hyper canon for a reason

Hypertubes are a mid game tool, so if you haven't unlocked them yet then that means you are not even halfway through the game my man. And you're already talking about how we need more vertical mobility. You really should play through the game and see what it gives you before you make assumptions.

Anyway, as I have said twice already, just build. Build a ramp and drive on it. Make a road from one base to the other over the mountains, nothing is stopping you. Or make a train track, another mobility option available later in the game. I will say it again, game gives you options, for some reason you are not using them and want something else. Why?

Also, stackable conveyor poles are ladders.

As mentioned, you can get anywhere and everywhere with only foundations and ramps.

In addition, you can elevate yourself straight upward by jumping and building 2m foundations directly below your feet, just like making block towers in Minecraft. It's easier with the Blade Runners, but doable without them (you have a split-second to build at the apex of your jump, so you need to spam LMB).

Still, this game clearly needs a player-pilotable drop ship at or near the final tier. The landscape will of course look like crap while flying, since games like this are meant to be seen up-close, but Ficsit is part of a civilization that can build a space elevator and user-friendly jetpack, so it's the next logical thing.

Yea some places can't be accessed early game, that's pretty normal. Later when you have jetpack/running blades/infinite amount of concrete/more inventory space you can go anywhere.
And most cliffs that dont have natural staircases are empty on top. I think it's safe to say that at least 80% of relevent areas are accessible with only running blades and maybe a bit of concrete

Lookout towers are T1 and your friend. Their height is practically the standard cliff height for most of the world.

Just an FYI for you: The developers have already told us multiple times that there will never be any sort of powered flying vehicle in this game.

Well, that's what mods are for, I suppose.

Back to what IS in the game: The jetpack as currently implemented is so bad that I never use it. It's substantially worse and slower at vertical traversal than simply plonking down a lookout tower; it';s faster at horizontal traversal than building a foundation bridge, but with far more limited range.

It's not even a good substitute for the parachute, since you need two inventory slots to carry the jetpack and fuel, and the parachute can carry you a very long distance, rather than one limited by fuel.

Giving it its own slot so that it could be combined with the Blade Runners might help.

Quartz by the pit hole. Yeah I know that spot.

I went to the dry area slightly west of that quartz spot. You will find two pure Quartz spot closer to ground level.

They also said we'd never get pipes. Sort of a running joke, but... Hard to know when they are serious or not when some things are said.

It would be nice to have some kind of sustained flight, though, for building. Maybe just an upgraded jetpack with more than a 5 second sustained flight time. I know mods accomplish this, but, it'd be nice to have in the base game.
