Platforms and miners

II know you can put plate forms over a deposit and then place a miner on the platform and the miner will mine thru the platform. It seems the 4x8 platform will not work. I have used the 2x whatever and that works.

That is correct there is a max height limit of 3m above the node for the machines to still work :) so only 3 x 1m or 1 x 1m + 1 x 2m will work :)

They all work, you just have to shove the larger one a little deeper and if it doesn't go deep enough, you use one of the thinner ones.

I used the 8x2 to get it to work. Three hogs sowed up when I did! I killed one and the other chickens ran away!

Sounds like a fun time! I have tried shoving the larger one a little deeper in the past. It doesn't always quite work as one would expect.

All depends on the angle of the ground around the node :) but by doing it you still have to sink the foundation to leave a height of 3m :)
The Op refers to placing a foundation directly on a node and machines will not work with the 4m placed directly on the node, as it's full height is too high for a miner to still work :)
