Need pause in single player
I often context switch a lot between work and a quick session on this. I could do with a pause button to save me saving and reloading

For the love of god add a pause feature.
Why am I scouring the internet and editing .ini files, changing key bindings and using console commands to get a game to pause? I've spent the last 2 hours messing around trying to add a feature that nearly every game for the last 30 years has had straight out of the box. Why do I have to save and exit and mute the sound to do other things on my PC mid game? Why am I expected to leave my factory running when I answer the phone or the reality of human existence impacts my gaming?

In what parallel universe s it acceptable to release a game without such a feature when the capacity to do it exists but you're expected jump through hoops to achieve it. I dunno why not just bind the feature to say, THE PAUSE KEY EVERY KEYBOARD HAS. Or why not pause the game in single player when entering the escape menu like every game since the dawn of time has managed?

Go to a safe space (powered building and cleared area) or box yourself in a box, alt-tab out, and use Windows Mixer to mute it. Most games don't pause AND mute the game.

If I need to go to the bathroom or something when exploring I just either box myself in, or climb onto a building.

Also, there is a Pause command in the console ;)

In a game where there is no consequence for anything really, whats the point of a pause button. Just let things run. This complaint is stupid.

Navigate to %LOCALAPPDATA%\FactoryGame\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor", and add the following lines to the end of the "input.ini" file:

[/script/engine.inputsettings]

ConsoleKey=F6

If you're near your base then yes you're safe, but if you die you must walk all the back to where you died to get your stuff. Also, one could just save before going afk and reload if anything happens.

But yes, the point is that the game continues so that your factories continue to produce, so the lack of a pause button really isn't a huge issue...

Theres nothing wrong with your factory running...you dont need to babysit it.

Except it is. I can be out in danger when the phone goes. I just wanna hit pause, silence the game and hold my progress like every other game. I don't want my factory churning out stuff and using power whilst I'm not there. I want to be able to pause the game like every other game allows even ones where there isn't much jeopardy to leaving it running. You may not feel the need, but it is a giant pain for me.

The reason there isn't a pause feature is because this game supports multiplayer (and in fact multiplayer is one of the core functionality of the game). Did it ever cross your mind what would happen if there are others in the session and you hit pause? Does Team Fortress 2 let you pause?

Why should I box myself in and mess around with stuff like that when a pause button is all the game needs.I don't want to have to faff around when I have to stop what I'm doing quickly to deal with real life. A pause button isn't much to ask for.

Exccept I'm not playing multiplayer am I. There are loads of games where obviously you cannot pause in multiplayer but its child's play to enable it in single player. The capacity exists in this game too, Its just inexplicably walled of behind console commands.

In this case, too much....

If you're "handy" you might be able to build one yourself (there's two cases I can think of...). Take it as a challenge :P

Its not too much. Its a feature in nearly every other game. The capacity to do it is already coded in. As I write my factory is clanking and whirring away when I don't want it to be. I want it to shut up and pause when alt-tabbing like loads of games do. I don't want it to be continuing to make things I don't need at the moment so when I go back into the game I can't just carry on with what I was doing I have to go harvest biomass.

Uhm, no. This might be groundbreaking for you, but most games do not auto-pause if you alt-tab out, quite the contrary, and I've been playing games since the 80's.

In fact, most software isn't written to pause when using alt-tab at all, only to allow switching between the running programs. Unless we're talking about badly written ones like that horrific game Grimoire : Heralds of the Winged Exemplar is a prime example of. That one doesn't even recognize or allow the use of alt-tab (but that's the exeption rather the rule).

Like I wrote, you might be able to make a pause button yourself ;)

I have to support the OP on this. In single player, I want to have the ability to pause the game when I'm not actually playing it. I was shocked when I hit escape for the first time and realised the game was still running.

The arguments around it not mattering are pretty weak in my opinion. It might well be safe or whatever but there are times when I might need to pause for 10 mins or more and I'd prefer to be able to just leave my PC with peace of mind and not have to worry about running out of power. Might just be a control thing but please give us the option.

Enough pedantry for the sake of it. Its blindingly obvious why people might want to pause and silence their game with ease. Its not too much to ask of a game. Most games offer a a simple option, many games do it automatically in escape menus and plenty do it whilst alt tabbing.
