yay, thanks a bunch :)
Nice.
Are the refineries below just packaging water ?
no, they are producing caterium ingots, alt recipes making 6 x 450 lines of quickwire.
that pic isn't great, only one i had that wasn't high res tho, 8mb max n all.
i have a couple more to show, first my fuel gens and oil stuff

Cool desert factory. It looks like a western town with a railway arriving from far away
No worries. Glad you got it sorted.
I decided to build outposts; each dedicated on the production of a single part and three walls above a bunch of foundations acting as walkway for belts. Here's the desert:

Walkways were my original plan but I was too lazy to get around mountains and simply raised them. But once I raised them I was too lazy to lower them and I now have skyways (which is way more cool than walkways):

There's just one tiny (huge!) drawback. Pumping fluid few hundread meters above ground is a hell of pain:

As for my base it ended up as being nothing more than a storage area (but a cool looking one thanks to the dispenser mod):

For the curious the map does look like this in satisfactory-calculator.com:

Had to tweak my water extractors to make sure the second row of refineries didn't back up (I was too lazy setting up an overflow water packaging, this took me long enough lol)
And now that I have what I need to make Mk5 belts... Well it's already time to revamp the whole thing lol
Then I'll revamp when I can make Mk3 miners whenever I want
Then I'll revamp when we get Mk6 belts....
Five floors offload their products to the top-floor for advanced production (just started working on the top floor, so the basic concept is still easy to see). Also started playing arround with oil, plastic and fuel-based powerplants.

this system is based on a grid of mostly straight long distance connections in the cardinal directions, with hubs connecting those tubes to each other and to the real destinations. the following is an experimental setup for such a hub, and just for testing, the pipes to the north and south are going around in a big circle to enter the hub again, just like the pipes that go from/to the west and east.
the following three pictures are:
- an overview of the entire hub
- the central "switching" part of the hub, and
- the outer part to split/merge the tubes.
the following is only a WIP, or "proof of concept"
who has built a similar system or has any ideas how to improve on this ?

this overview shows dummy connections in all four cardinal directions which (just for testing) loop around to come back from the other side to simulate a long chain of identical hubs.

this is the central room of the hub. each side has one incoming tube and three outgoing tubes under the incoming tube. people will enter this room through one of these upper tubes with enough momentum to send them to the opposite side to be sucked in by one of the three lower tubes. depending on whether nothing is done to go straight or a key WASD is pushed to go left or right (direction key depends on the direction of the camera, eg A/D to go west/east when the camera looks north, or A/D to turn left/right when the camera is aligned with the character), you'll end up in one of the two bottom side-tubes to later (see pic 3) turn left or right towards the next hub or destination.
the distances (size and height of this room) might be critical, but seem to allow enough momentum to automatically continue (go straight), and also not speed up too much (eventually shooting you off the map, etc), and to be able to move sideways by enough to not enter the lower central tube if a key is pressed to switch direction of travel.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2179116210
this final view is the most tricky part: people enter from the outside with enough speed to be "shot" over the three lower tubes, and enter the central room via the next short tube. they will leave this central room through one of the three lower tubes which then direct them according to the chosen direction to barely fly up and pass right next to the next tube entrance so that they will be sucked into that outgoing tube (the same through which people from that direction arrive; no double tubes needed to go back and forth) and not enter the other tube that would send them to the central room again.
ps1: to leave this test setup, fly up with the jetpack, or slow down so that you are not sucked in by the next pipes, or save the game before you get into an endless loop :-)
ps2: total energy consumption: 200 MW for 4 directions x 5 tube entrances @10MW each :-) :-(
edit: some typing errors
I thought about doing that but I always thought the system would be too rigid to not get sucked into the wrong tube since you get suck from pretty far imo.
Well done.
Lol :P Nicely done.
I haven't even set up oil/rubber/plastic production yet. This is going to be a really long play through.
