All of my coal locations are inaccessible to me....wtf?
This is pretty dumb. I'm on a new game and every single coal location is COMPLETELY inaccessible for me.

One location is on top of a huge rock that I cannot climb or get to.
Another location is buried somehow in the sand. It shows me I am on top of it but there's nothing there...which means it's probably in a cave deep beneath me....somewhere I cannot get to as I don't have access to jetpacks yet.
Another location is what essentially looks like a floating island. There's no way on to the island as it's surrounded by a huge chasm and I can't jump far enough to reach it.
Another coal location is located high above near a waterfall....a waterfall I cannot reach because it no accessible path up there.

If Coal is a mid-game resource, they sure made it impossible to farm. There's literally nothing I can do to get to it. How am I supposed to set up a coal outpost and have trucks drive to if there's literally no way to drive there?

This is beyond frustrating.

Build infrastructure using concrete and iron rods to make your own highways (with guardrails) and ramps to them. The natural terrain can make for decent but not great roads without making your own highways

And don't be afraid to explore by yourself with stuff to heal you (nuts, berries, and the bacon mushroom), you might find a different path to it that could work later when you get more advanced tech for transportation like Tractors, Trucks, and even Trains.

Just build bridges and ramps with foundations, or ladders with conveyor racks.

lol Thanks....I feel like an idiot now. I'm thinking in terms of factorio that I can't build a road or highway unless I have something called a road or asphalt in hand...didn't even occur to me that factory floors are the highway pieces.

Foundations and stackable conveyor poles (these have ladders on the side) can get you anywhere in the game. Never leave home without a healthy amount of concrete, iron plates, and iron rods.

Its fine, I've got 400+ hours in Factorio myself so its a change you get use to after a bit, the 3 dimension really throws you off at first for awhile. Especially with building your factory because wide factories is what you're use to.

But now I've got a two story starter factory with the first floor as ore processing and the second as a manufacturer floor for simple items. Third floor once i get the other basic items done on the second will be where i have many assemblers for the more complex items, like Reinforced Iron plates, and maybe the space elevator parts too...

This is pretty dumb. I'm on a new game and every single coal location is COMPLETELY inaccessible for me.

If those locations are (and I quote) "Completely inaccessible", you're not spending an awful lot of energy solving the challenge.

Floating island? Build a dang bridge with belts or foundations. Top of a cliff? Build a staircase or a ramp.
Nobody touched on it, but are you sure that underground coal node is in a cave, or just set a hair too low in the ground? There's some iron nodes near the map's west coast somewhere that are actually clipped under the ground but are still high enough to place a miner on. It's fiddly as all hell to get the miner on there from what I've seen, but it is possible.

OP already understood that he needs to think in 3 dimensions, no need to rub it in further.

Is it the coal marker near the lake? The coal is not under the ground. The deposits are in the surrounding area. It confused me too in the beginning, especially since those coal nodes look like limestone nodes in my game.

You can always check for node locations on the online interactive map[satisfactory-calculator.com]

Nodes also sparkle, so if it sparkles but doesn't look like the others do, it's not in a cave below you. There's one in the pink forest like that, and a SAM node East of that forest which does the same thing.

As was your comment. I'm rubber, you're feathers.

Yes, it's near a lake but the exact point of where the coal should be is nothing but sand in the middle of a forest area. There is absolutely no Coal whatsoever here. There's no sparkle, nothing. The only place it could possible be is beneath me somehow but I see no way to get underneath in this area.

I already stated that I was thinking in terms of Factorio where in order to build a bridge, I'd need a piece called a bridge. Or in order to build a road, I would need a road.

It didn't occur to me that factory floors were roads. I was assuming factory floors could only be built near the factory.

i too had a hard time getting to the top of things where coal was..till i learned how to use foundations as ways of making stairs and sloped walkways ..i have located 3 coals on top of those high single moumtain tops..which are now producing coal on my mk2 belts and mk2 miner headed to my factory floor

THIS ^

Concrete platforms are your friend. The game is NOT impossible unless you (or we) as players make it that way. Your post certainly shows you over complicating a simple thing.

How many hours do you have in satisfactory all totaled? You could definitely use help understand a few things. I am here to help should you wish it.
