-Do you crave tower defense/wave repelling/predictable and cliche` "enemy attack" cycles?
-Do spiders the size of a Prius bother you?
Satisfactory is 3D/first person, with a limited worldspace that has set boundaries (invisible walls that kill you), but there are no tower defense/base defense elements, and none are planned (though I assume if enough people cry about it, the devs will ruin the game by putting that garbage in). As well, there is co-op, but not PvP, which means you can't play as an idiot who lets other people do all the work and then steals from them/takes over their bases.
Both have the same ultimate goal, build a factory. Everything surrounding that is different.
Factorio by default has limited resource patches in an infinite procedurally generated world. Satisfactory has infinite resource patches in a finite handcrafted world.
Factorio uses inserters to move things between buildings and or belts. Satisfactory is 100% belt based, where splitters and mergers play a big role. Factorio doesn't really have a concept of a "merger" as a separate thing, since you can just do those directly with belts; while Satisfactory has no way for belts to interact without a merger or a splitter.
Factorio has more complex logic systems available, Satisfactory is limited to smart splitters only to manipulate belt contents. Satisfactory is more designed in a way that it doesn't really need complex logic systems like Factorio.
Exploration in Factorio's infinite worlds isn't that interesting. Satisfactory has collectibles (slugs, hard drives) and the hand crafted, static nature of Satisfactory allows for more interesting scenery and exploration puzzles.
Factorio is much more complex mechanically, Satisfactory is much shallower. Again, the overall design differences between them doesn't make that a good/bad thing to directly compare, but if theoretical complexity is all you care for, Factorio wins hands down.
Factorio is sprite based 2D, Satisfactory quite pretty 3D. If graphics is all you care for, Satisfactory wins hands down.
Both have "pointless" enemies to fight. In Factorio they actively attack you and try to destroy your base, but it's trivial to create defenses for that and ignore that mechanic entirely (if not just slapping it on peaceful). Satisfactory has a few enemies placed generally guarding ore nodes and collectibles, but with gear, those fights become rather trivial as well.
I like them both well enough, it's not like one makes the other redundant or worthless.
Im not gonna say any car is better then any boat for the same reason, they both are vehicles with similarities, but it would be silly to try to say one is better.
Factorio, I have looked at it. And, it looks boring. I have never played it, and i have no interest in playing. But I am also weird.
The only thing you can really say is Satisfactory is objectively more 3D then Factorio.
Also, just my 2 cents, Satisfactory is laggy. Not only is it heavy-CPU based, my FPS drops even when my hardware is not really utilized. Factorio has very stable performance until you reach a point where you have hundreds of drones flying around you, in which case frames can go down quite hard. However, I have issues in Satisfactory right at the start of the game, without even ever trying to build my mega-factory
Also let's not forget that the way Research happens in Factorio is INFINITELY better than Satisfactory, like, no offence, but a bot that flies away into space, and then comes back in 4 minutes when you might already have the resources for the next thing? And don't even get me started on some of the item requirements early on, like 300 Wire but only 100 Iron plates?
You literally just go take a break while staying online in the game and let the game automate all the stuff for you, whereas in Factorio not only do you need to build a SEPARATE automation system for your Research labs, you will have to improve upon them eventually when you are done with all the "Red" research and you move on to "Red+Green"
it's a lot more engaging to be doing that kind of research instead of just simply sitting on your ass for 15 minutes while your constructors and assemblers do the thing for you, so you can come back, and get another 5 minute cooldown
Objectively, Factorio should be better, BUT if Satisfactory were fixed, if it didn't cause this much lag for me, it I didn't have fps dips down to 30 from 90 because of huge CPU usage and if Satisfactory were updated with more content, I would be inclined to change my mind
Game is based on the challenges of solving logistic puzzles to ensure high throughput at it core like all logistic games.
Also it will make some computers cry, lower the graphics and try to segment the factory. I believe it an graphically issue(aka 3-D is graphic intensive) rather then a direct CPU issue. Factorio can get laggy in ultra mega factories with a thousand flying robots otherwise there simply not enough stuff to show at once to cause the lag similiar to satisfacotry
And yes, you don't really have to do anything like that in factorio. You just use coal, like literally the first thing you find in the game. Also, some buildings are not capped at 1 single stack of fuel, but you can transfer as many stacks as you want, and automated base becomes available like almost immediately, AND setting up a water pump+Steam Engines is so friggishly easy compared to how much you have to go through in Satisfactory to get the same
My two cents:
I prefer Satisfactory because 3d and a neat world to explore and amazing stuff to see, unlike the dullness of Factorio. You factories simply look better and you have way more freedom of creativity of how you do things.
I can also get tower defense done better a million other places, and I don't feel like being under the constant pressure of an attack absolutely destroying everything I've make.
And I really hate the NES level of graphics in Factorio, ug ug ug, I don't want to spend all my time staring at dull ugly boring graphics.
For example I made a 15km long train and pipeline while idle my space elevator for no reason just because it makes fun driving around on a train and playing around with pipeline mechanics. Thats not really the same as a train ride in factorio.
I can only speak for myself: I dont really like 2d-Graphics and I absolutely HATE Tower Defense. So Factorio wasnt ever an Option.
i just prefer the visual
Both are fun and both appeal to different aspects, Factorio is really more about the throughput and building more stuff to make more and more stuff while fueling your defenses against Biters.
Satisfactory while it still has logistics is much more about the building aspect in my opinion as due to the 3D aspect and foundations/walls/pillars/windows you can create all kinds of different kinds of factories. Whether you are trying to make the most efficient ones or not you can add a lot of personality to them asthetically.
Factorio you can technically build different factories but most people are going to be driven to build the most efficient layout.
Both games are great but appeal to different aspects of the factory style game for people.
