Conveyor lift builds in wrong direction
How do I fix this? It worked in another game. Did the devs change the way it builds?

I read other peoples forum posts and figured it out. I had to use the mouse wheel to turn the top part. A bit difficult for someone with cordination problems.

Use a controller. You can rotate the conveyor ends with the D-pad. You still need the mouse and keyboard, though, as controllers are not fully implemented. You do get movement, camera and menus, but the Exit button doesn't always work.

Can you build them upside down so they lower resources? I couldn't figure it out if it is in there.

Yes it works

Just uh... build them the right way. Like any kind of belt, the point of origin is the point of origin. Where you drag it to is where the conveyor moves.

Except when you start from the end point and the end point has a belt moving away from it.
Machine/Container input sides also count like that.

Place conveyor pole at the end of the foundation at the top of where you want to build a lift. Start building lift next to that conveyor pole and drag second part of lift down. Dismount conveyor pole. You now have a lift that goes down.

If you want to build from down to up then you need something with already defined direction at the bottom (conveyor belt going away from where you will put a lift or input slot of a production facility) and when you put lift next to it direction will be passed on to the lift.
