Power capacity dropping
Anyone have an idea why my power capacity is dropping randomly ?

there is a lack of water or coal in the plants

No, always full on coal/water. IT starts flucuating like 5min after restarting the power.

I had this same problem and couldn't sort it out for a while. Check your water levels in the coal plants and trace it back. Making straighter pipes, adding pumps, adding a buffer, etc can help.

how many water collectors are you running with how many generators?
Svennen Jun 15, 2020 @ 8:39am
Im using 8 generators per 3 pumps. The thing is, it just started happning, has been super stable before, and i havent changed anything.

Don't know if this will help you, I had the similar problem because I had too many coal plants hooked up to the same pipe, you can have enough pumps but a pipe can only deliver 300 cubic meters per minute of water, I had to slit my piping into two for my 8 coal plants, one pipe for 4 plants

You need to have two pipes to suport 3 pumps, du you have that?

Certainly is a lack of water problem. I had this problem, I was using four water pumps for six coal plants. This was ok. So I decided build more six coal plant and, so I build more four water pumps, and here was my mistake: I connected the 12 water pumps in THE SAME NETWORK, when I separated, building a different water network for the new six water pumbs everthing worked just fine.

You do realise pipelines have a max flow rate right? They also have issues going uphill without pumps.

Fluctuating max power capacity can only ever be one thing, your generators aren't being supplied with resources properly. The issue is with your construction.

I have 18 coal generatos, all looks like this. https://gyazo.com/849be06f35fc67214c50b923e5ec8699

When you use more LESS than half of the produced power coal and water are consumed at a 50% rate when you start using more than half it consumes at a 100% rate. You are running low on either water or coal. I'd guess it's water because pipes can only transport so much at a time so the pipes themselves are probably your bottleneck.

In that image your power production is all over the place indicating the problem.

Stop overclocking, check your water supply, and it might solve itself ;)

I have 48 and they all run like a fine tuned clock.

1 pump 1 reservoir 3 generators is ideal- one pipe for each group
oohbetty Jun 15, 2020 @ 9:58am
having them clocked like that means you can only run 3 gens per pipe, move to fuel gens asap.

99% you have water flow problem. Check pipes from your water extractors till the coal plant. All the way pipe fill should be maxed.

Also make sure you have 1 pipe for every 6 coal plants.

Also make sure that you have pumps in correct place. Try to place only one pump near to water extractor to test how high your water is going. It might give you some idea how many pumps you need.

* It is really hard to detect water flow problem. And making the flow right is even more challenging.

** I have spent like 10 hours just to make the flow right.
