"whats the objective" or "why"?
hey all, I honestly want to figure out if Satisfactory is a good fit for me or not. So maybe you guys can answer a couple questions I have on my mind.

Satisfactories automation process is to my liking. I m inherently fascinated by progress games that allow me to become bigger/better etc. That a fair amount of grinding is involved (early game) is not a problem. Graphic is a plus but not a must.

My biggest concern right now preventing an instant purchase are the above questions in the title. I like growing bigger and doing more but if I have no end goal objective to meet that it all feels kinda.....pointless. And that would instantly kill my desire to even start. Now I dont want to buy the game only to leave it sitting there gathering dust because it gets "boring" for me.

Avorion or X4 provide an endgame or objective that justifies tedious gameplay or allow me to progress with a goal in mind.

So does Satisfactory have a kind of mission system or storyline aka Subnautica? Or are those things to come at some point? (early access after all)

while there will be a storyline, it will only be available much later. there's some exploration you can do now, and that will also be fleshed out later.

there are tasks that are assigned to you by the game (milestones, space elevator projects) that are necessary for progression.

At the moment, you're just building for the sake of building. The story will be added much later.

Don't know any of those other games, but here there are a few "objectives" in the beginning to help you along and 8 tiers you can unlock, which can take many many hours to unlock, but ultimately this a sanbox game. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandbox_game

The main "goal" is to build and have fun.

thank you guys, I feared as much. I m going to keep it in my wishlist then but will wait until the game has matured a bit more. Thanks for the speedy replies.

There is an objective - progressing to unlock next tiers of stuff. Others say it like there is absolutely nothing but no. To unlock tiers, you have to provide some stuff to the orbit. So you need to build production chains for these items, find resources etc.

It is similar objective to the Rocket in Factorio. You don't need to do it but it gives you something to work for.

Yeah, if you need the subnautica-ish elements, you might want to check back in a year or two.

I guess the goal right now is advancing through the tiers, which should take you 2-3digit amount of hours.
One could say the goal is to finish the space elevator

Its a building game. The space elevator, MAM and the HUB milestones, are just so you build using all the techs.

the only reason to play right now is is really get an idea of what to do. there is no goal or story to discover at the moment. its like playing Minecraft, you make your own grand quest.

Storyline is hinted at and is not implemneted at the moment. You are told that you're supposed to start and advance "project Assembly". Building stuff is a part of it.

Believe me, the game doesn't need story or artifitial objectives, it's adictive at the moment. And still it will get some goals later in development.

You could've just asked if there's a story. No, there's no story yet. However it will be implemented little by little in time. There are many hints of the story and work-in-progress (WIP) items in the game already.
