object scanner

i upgraded to tier 1 and made the object scanner and it does not work..it shows on hand held screen object out of range..i did not get a list to choose from when i click RMB or hold LMB..i built the m.a.m station and thought maybe it has to link to that but no options for this..need some help

Hint: Start by researching a few things in the M.A.M.

You need to research items in the m.a.m before they become available in the scanner interface. Then you'll be able to scan for berries, slugs etc.

ok..i researched slugs and got the first branch of the tree and still no list in scanner..

Once you've researched some things to scan, right click to cycle through them.

The first slug research gives you access to overclocking research (which uses slugs as a crafting component), I think it's the next one that unlocks scanning for slugs. You research each slug type separately.

ok..researched slug and it added it to my scanner..something i dont understand..you have to find these slugs on your own before you can use your scanner for them..doesnt make sense that you have had to find these items before you can use your scanner to find them again..what am i missing here..

You have to explore the map and then you find the things. if you want to find more you need research it to be able to scan for it.
Hint. There is ore witch can be obtained only that way, and is really useful.

i just used my sulfer to unlock that research and now i have gunpowder next...but now the sulfer is not showing up in my scanner..which i need for gunpowder...does not make any sense to me.. now i have to find sulfer again on my own..what s the sense in using this scanner..

There are 2 types of scanners. The object scanner you hold in your hand does not scan for minerals. Press and hold [V] to scan for minerals.

Yeah, pull it together dude. The 'V' button scanner you were taught at the start of the game and is used to scan for ores and minerals. The handheld object scanner is used to hunt for living things like slugs/nuts/mushrooms/berry.
