Hurts my eyes attempting to play
Having just bought the game which was long awaited for the steam release, on first landing on a planet I could barely to look at the screen for a few seconds when moving the camera around. There is something I can't pinpoint that is causing my eyes to hurt some graphical oddity that is causing pain. I find this extremely strange and the first game really that I remember having had something like this happen. It's not that there are artifacts or glitches but something that is straining my eyes.

I've tried changing all of the ingame settings to no avail, I'm running a system that well meets the suggested requirements. 9900k, 32gb ram, nvidia 1070 on a 3440x1440 21:9 monitor.

Some people get headaches from too high of a framerate. But I hear that's like 2000 and above, and you'd never get that even in the menu.

It looked to me like the graphics while you move are not as smooth as other games. I noticed a little bit of hesitation as I moved the camera.

Maybe enable vsync to see of that helps.

Maybe FOV is too low? I have similar issues in some games (like Warframe) where too low FOV hurts my eyes.

Turning off motion blur sometimes helps too.

you'd never get that even on desktop... a monitor has a refresh rate and it is 10+ times less than

That kind of feels more like what I'm experiencing it's as if the stuttering, non fluid movement is almost like it's causing a strobing effect which is causing my eyes to hurt. Though my framerate isn't in question it's higher than my monitor can display and vsync doesn't help as I said I've gone through all the settings.

All the mentioned above might be reasons to cause discomfort.

Try playing around with the VSync, Field of View and Motion Blur settings in the Video Options, see if it helps.

V-Sync was actually worse for me. I'm playing on a 4k monitor with a RX 5700 XT. The game defaulted to 1440 resolution. I raised it to 4k and it seemed much better. I'll play with some of the other settings as well. Thanks.

That sucks. I would look at updating video drivers just in case. Check the video drivers are not changing settings (like the Nvidia Experience or whatever it is called that can "optimise settings")

Sounds like motion blur to me, I turn that off in games before I even get beyond the main menu now.
Or it might even be TAA.(this also causes blurriness, which might be why increasing the resolution helped)

I have tried turning off the motion blur, most of the AA settings, upping the FOV and a couple other things and I can't play this game for more than a few hours before I get a massive migraine... which really sucks as I really enjoy playing it

1. You're sitting too close to your monitor.
2. The FOV isn't high enough for how close you are to the monitor.

Adjust those two things over time so you don't strain your eyes trying to focus too close.

This game also causes eye strain with me. Looking in the mirror after playing my eyes being red - for whatever reason playing this game I guess I don't blink as much or the vibrance / intensity is too much. All I know is I have some kind of effect from it. Or maybe don't have to look around much so they eyes stay looking at the same spot & not having to adjust?

Literally the worst feature ever... hey can we make the game look worse and way more resource intensive?
