How to use object scanner?

When I have it equipped in my hand, I hold left click for the radial menu but the only action is to cancel.

Research stuff in the MAM like berries, nuts, power slugs, etc

Hold V to get svcanner up, then a wheel menu pop up and u select ore u want to scan

You research at the MAM. You can then select an item with the radial menu and it beeps if you look in the direction of what you search.
