Epic Online Services integrated into the game?
^Title
引用自 Snutt:
The game utilizes epic online services for all online play. It's not technically IN the game I guess but it's the main way we establish connectivity between players.

You can boot the game in offline mode subsequently not connecting to eos albeit it's a bit iffy at the moment the way it works as you need to add parameters as a shortcut to the executable.

And yeah one thing to take into consideration also is that this game is made in Unreal Engine that's actively developed by Epic so there really is no way of getting around that.

Sticky on top, tells you all you need to know

Can you opt out of the game contacting Epic? Can you opt out of EOS if you only plan on playing solo?

I didn't see either of those answered. Maybe I missed it.

Block the game in your firewall?

technically yes - by not playing multiplayer. The game has no reason to use your ID to create connection then. EOS is not Epic Store, it is just a module attached to the engine to connect people in multiplayer.

The only ingame opt-out-option is for hardware-/crash-reports in the "gameplay"-category in options

I would guess that playing in offline mode should do that. But you'll have to kill your old character every time you load the save. At least if it works the same as with playing offline/with the launcher not running on epic.

The review is correct about the game using EOS but if this is a problem due to person not wanting to "support Epic at all" that person will have to avoid all games that use Unreal Engine. Unreal Engine is developed by Epic. The review is in that sense wrong about EOS being the problem since EOS is actually free for developers, while for use of Unreal engine in commercial products, 5% of the product's price goes to Epic.

EDIT: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Unreal_Engine_games here is a list of games that use UE, for those who wish to avoid supporting Epic at all.

You could've stopped at "The review is correct [...]".
Because everything beyond that is unnecessary clutter.

The part of the review that was quoted was about EoS (an Epic-software) being in the game and a necessarity.
Not about any boycotts or "if you dont want to use this, then dont use X either".

I could have, but the reviewer has no idea what EOS is and the review quoted is about not wanting to support Epic by playing a game that uses EOS. It's illogical.

then I suggest you talk to the reviewer about this.

The question was is EoS part of the game, answer is yes.
Therefor the post is pretty much answered now

Read the FAQ, it's merely a tool to allow cross play.
crossplay doesn't work and that funny they spend 1 month on that

I would've loved to, but the reviewer disabled comments on their review.

Ye, it's a nice strawman. Prime example of a good user review and all that.

You can firewall the game but that makes the game hang in log-in for around 3-4 minutes while it tries to connect to EOS, after it gives up it will simply show an error message and you can play SP, had they given an option for purely SP at start-up, or if they had made the retry timer on trying to connect to EOS shorter, they would have avoided some issues regarding this.

no. epic games is epic games.

steam games is steam games.

"I do not recommend purchasing this game on Steam if your primary reason for purchasing it on Steam was to avoid Epic.

Epic Online Services is integrated with the game and means you can't avoid Epic with the game. I'm very torn. I want to support the game for finally being available on Steam, but, I do NOT want to support Epic at all. I'm currently trying to decide whether to request a refund or not due to it requiring integration with Epic.

This is a significant failing as it does not warn that it requires connecting to Epic's Online Services before purchase and you can not play without linking your steam account to Epic's servers. This is disappointing to me."

So this review is just false?
The user is simply misinformed and then bases everything on that misinformation.
EOS is an API (sort of). It's not EGS or anything remotely resembling their store.

Basically, it's as much EGS as Unreal Engine is, if you really want to make a weird stretch for a comparison.

If he/she doesn't want to support Epic; he/she should stop buying games running on the Unreal Engine.
...but seeing as that apparently wouldn't have been an issue for him/her, if the game didn't use EOS (...Satisfactory runs on Unreal Engine), then it's fairly double-standard and extremely misinformed overall.

EoS is (as the name suggests) software(kit?) developed by Epic.
If some1 wants to boycott that company and all their services then EoS (and yes, also U-engine) can be reason enough for that.
So how is the review missinformed ?
And how is any of this relevant for OPs question ?
Hoki 2020 年 6 月 9 日 下午 12:52
the informations are correct but how they are presented is pretty much a doublestandart.

eos is a tool for the unreal engine and is being framed as the main reason to avoid the game.

this part is the missunderstanding of the facts. its a tool that does nothing by itself if not being called upon. all the negativity and missunderstanding is caused because it bears the name epic.

as tagger said: if one wants to avoid the game because eos then they should avoid all unreal games because the engine is as much epic as eos is.
