steam games is steam games.
"I do not recommend purchasing this game on Steam if your primary reason for purchasing it on Steam was to avoid Epic.
Epic Online Services is integrated with the game and means you can't avoid Epic with the game. I'm very torn. I want to support the game for finally being available on Steam, but, I do NOT want to support Epic at all. I'm currently trying to decide whether to request a refund or not due to it requiring integration with Epic.
This is a significant failing as it does not warn that it requires connecting to Epic's Online Services before purchase and you can not play without linking your steam account to Epic's servers. This is disappointing to me."
So this review is just false?
Easy way to find out who is telling you the truth for certain... block epic in your firewall... fire up the game... see what happens...
The review is correct. The game uses EOS even if you never crossplay with epic users.
Dont know what kind of point you want to make but it definetly doesnt answer the question of op.
Yes, Epic online Service is included in the code of the game, you can NOT play without it.
At the very start of the game you get asked if you want to log in with Steam and use EOS, or if you want to log in with your Epic account and use EOS.
Your statement is incorrect, the review is correct.
The review is correct about the game using EOS but if this is a problem due to person not wanting to "support Epic at all" that person will have to avoid all games that use Unreal Engine. Unreal Engine is developed by Epic. The review is in that sense wrong about EOS being the problem since EOS is actually free for developers, while for use of Unreal engine in commercial products, 5% of the product's price goes to Epic.
EDIT: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Unreal_Engine_games here is a list of games that use UE, for those who wish to avoid supporting Epic at all.
EOS is nothing more but steam ID identificator using your already public Steam ID to allow multiplayer to work between steam users/epic games users. Nothing more. Data collected is merely just what you do ingame. Which is common in many games. These devs where nice enough to even allow players to disable it.

Sticky on top, tells you all you need to know
You could've stopped at "The review is correct [...]".
Because everything beyond that is unnecessary clutter.
The part of the review that was quoted was about EoS (an Epic-software) being in the game and a necessarity.
Not about any boycotts or "if you dont want to use this, then dont use X either".
