Splitting team to make Linux port or any port is not an option right now.
They did stated they will look in to that once the game is done
Even if they plan to do a Linux port, it won't be available anytime soon. Heck, look at how long it took just to tweak the netcode on the Windows version to let it exist on Steam.
Yes, it does. Not the answer I wanted most, but also not the answer I wanted least. I'll keep waiting then for the game to be further developed.
Thank you for your time!
also playing in proton with no fiddling whatsoever
i just play in offline to defer the account setup choice in the first place.
was a little disappointed about the intro video not playing, but I loaded it up in youtube and saw i didn't miss much.
i do have some pretty substantial hitches on occasion that i assume are the usual shader rebuilds and such, but they haven't been terribly damaging to gameplay.
my symptoms appear to be slightly different in that it consistently says 'welcome back esotericist', but my inventory consistently gets wiped anyway, while that thread suggests if it gets your name right it'll work.
i'll assume for the time being this is a subtle steam-vs-epic infrastructure difference.
edit: nope, offline support is just more or less absent on both platforns[questions.satisfactorygame.com], as it turns out
result: i have to find and kill my previous incarnation every time i start a session, and the inbox only has stuff from ada for that session.
unfortunate.
bright side, actual progression isn't lost.
Steam stats say 21 million users are online at 16:00 o'clock at 6:00 it were 14 million. If I assume that people sleep at some time, I could say the 21 million are not the same 14 million, so I assume around 32 million active steam users. This means there are 960000 Mac Users and 320000 Linux users. The Windows users can chose from hundreds of current AAA titles, so a lot realy alot of them are already satisfied even without Satisfactory, the others you can imagine almost try to get what the somehow can get. So I continue to assume conservative that 100000 of 320000 Linux users means (14 dollar per copy, I subtracted taxes, steam and the 10% off) 1.4 Million dollars for the developers and for mac i assume 4 Million (30 %) . The developer must decide if he wants the money or not. But we must note that there are many Mac/Linux users (me either,Linux) that already bought the game, because "we consider releasing it to mac and linux further down the line. No plans at the moment "(Snutt) (in the past he already wrote something similar) seems already very promising.
One another thing is I can't understand why Epic offers a game engine that supports a lot of platforms including Mac and Linux, but their store is windows only. Do you have the answer?
P.S. At the moment I am very happy that I can play it with Proton. But I still didn't figure out how to play in multiplayer (Not logged in ?).
I always smile when I see numbers like these. Since the projection assumes all linux users would buy the game.
However; the numbers we can determine are within this Discussion.
We don't see 100000 people asking for a port
We see 5 people..
5 people are holding out for a linux native port,
the rest already own the game and / or are playing on proton.
Therefore:
5 x 14 dollars = 70.00 bucks.
He does at that...
I just don't see the incentive...
There is another Thread:
Will there be a Linux version?
abot 200 but has been closed.
But are you serious that everyone who want a port will write a comment here.
I already said there are more than thousand games for Windows, so it is some kind of
childish naivety to write "+1 for a Linux Port" in every discussion.
Yes Linuux an Mac are a niche but not like the Windows market it is far from being saturated.
At lot of people know that the underlying Unreal Engine works also on Linux, so this game is expected to be easy to port. Some developers use wine/proton and say this IS the linux port, but only a few of them fix the remaining bugs of this solution.
yeah, that's going to require more finessing before it'll work, apparently due to some hitches in how the game invokes the authorization request vs how proton/wine handles the browsering bits. there's an issue already opened[github.com] in the proton issue tracker about it.
