inserters
really looking forward to next monday, release day..been looking at you tube vids on game and i dont see any INSERTERS like there is in Factorio..so it looks like all is done with different kinds of belts and direct input to machines..any body have thought s on this...

So, each machine has physical inputs, however you can split belts with storage or splitters. There's a lot of tricks you can pull with that, mostly i stack belts using passthrough walls, then use splitters and vertical conveyors to pass that into the machines.

Conveyor belts use splitters and mergers to connect multiple machines to one belt.

Belts carry one item at a time and are rated in items per minute. Currently 5 tiers of belts, (60/120/270/480/780) items per minute respectively.

Pipes also have junctions, but a pipe can only have a flow rate of 300m3 a minute maximum.

This is a game where a manifold based construction scheme is extremely effective.

sample: S = splitters, X = machine, M= merger

input - S - S - S
| | |
| | |
M - M - M --- exit

Im not sure how to fix the formatting so apologies. Hope the point still gets across properly.

i understand very well and well said..thank you very much..looking at stacking belts and how splitters..mergers work..so how many inputs can a merger have?

3 inputs for a merger, 3 outputs on a splitter.

Mergers have 3 inputs and 1 output. Splinter have 1 input and 3 outputs

To elaborate a bit more, the splitter splits items in this order.

1. Center
2. Left
3. Right

You can create balancers like in Factorio. But the ability to stack conveyors on top of one another veryiclly (conveyor stackable poles) really makes for some interesting things.

thank u for the reply..another question..if i have 9 smelters how many splitters do i need and can i have a few miners drilling at same site and going to the same splitters belt or just one miner and how would it work..in factorio you have inserters feeding furnances off of same belt

To start with, on a normal vein, a tier 1 drill with tier 1 belts will be able to easily support 3 smeltries, so one splitter per vein.

As things progress, you can start feeding more smeltries with ore.

Everything is based on how much your belts can move items per minute, thats your primary limiting factor.

For example iron ingot smelting is a 30/30 process. 30 iron ore goes in, 30 iron ingots go out per minute.

You then build a belt and connect those smelters to constructors that use those ingots in plates, rods, etc.

Miner -> belt -> smelter -> belt -> constructor(s) -> belt -> storage

Thats the most basic automation layout. It gets more complicated than that, but for now that will suffice as a general discription.

Been a supporter for 10+ months. Only purchase on Epic and probably never again.

Around 300 hours gametime over the many updates and revisions.
