Another way is to have an "interior" ladder system using the "wall perpendicular conveyor" piece stacked on top of each other on opposie walls, with space between those 2 walls. You can spiral the conveyor up that way.
Either way, you are going to have to use a fairly large building just for 2 simple lines. It's almost not worth even doing so due to resources/time. But if you like the challenge and like to have a small footprint, those are 2 possibilities.
Materials I do not mind (I got like over 6000 concrete), it's the space that I'm concerned about. If 2 simple lines will take so much more space, I'm better off having my production somewhere else. Anyway thanks so much for the tip!
I'm off for the night, but will post pics tomorrow. I wish we could save building as "templates." Took me a while to figure it out, lots of trial and error. But now that I have it down, I may use it quite often to clean up my current base. It does keep things nice and tight.
The current location I started on is the Desert, which forces you to be careful with your planning. Intentionally did that to force myself to learn to be as compact as possible.

Upcoming patch in April will bring another method for transporting items vertically.
There are few multistory videos on YouTube. They've helped immensely with ideas.
How do the other two regions compare to the grasslands? (♥♥♥♥♥ is far away)
Desert has some great open spaces, but not nearly as open as Grasslands.
Forest (3rd option) doesn't have a lot of open space to build, but it's got some GREAT nodes close together. Found a spot that has 8 Pure Iron with 400m between the further nodes, a Pure Copper, and a couple Normal Limestones. Not a lot of open space there, but if you're wanting to try multistory, this is the perfect spot for it.
That's the spot with the weird colored (blue/purple/etc) trees right?
I've been getting the gist of the game down, like 50+ hours since Tuesday and have a firm understanding of the game. Literally found oil just this morning before work but forgot to bring the portable miner so I couldn't make the drill. There has to be an easier way to get to the oil nodes or something because I ended up building a huge ramp just to get down to the level.
Open spaces are okay, but I like building complex, jam-packed sites and using the terrain around me to build off of, so whatever has that sounds awesome
I was able to lay out a 14x13 foundation, with some room to spare, to start my multistory factory. Working on getting coal running before I really dig into that, though.
I played all 3 starting points through T3. I then decided to go with Desert because of its challenges of terrain and alleged lack of bio fuels. Alleged, because I didn't find that to be the case. There was plenty, but then, I don't mind exploring a bit either. So for those who just want to say close to home all the time, I suppose they may struggle a little, but probably not overly so.
I'm on T6, shifting from coal to fuel. It's getting quite complex now, needing to piece together 4 components into 1.
Biggest advice I can give when starting fresh on a new start, is to be efficient with the early resources early on. Letting them get out of control can be frustrating as you'll end up wanting to go back and correct it all to keep it maintained. But I think that just comes with playing the game long enough. I'd imagine that anyone with 30+ hours feels the same way.
If I'm done, maybe I'll just wait for their roadmap displayed right now to finish then start an entirely new game on a new map.
Upstairs 6 factories produce metal plates.Below 6 factories produce metal tubes.
Then it all comes out compactly on the other side

And processed into more complex parts.

The covered part of the factory went out in 7x8 walls. And a little outside.

By the way for fast running there is an exoskeleton
