However, when people talk about receiving a Steam key after buying an Epic key, as with this game, they made the choice to buy it on Epic and therefore there is no reason why CSS should give them keys for Steam as well. They are effectively two separate products, the version on Steam and the version on Epic. Buying one product doesn't entitle you to receive the other one as well, which is exactly what people here ask for.
Except some do. Klei is one example. You can get a Steam key for Griftlands if you own the Epic Game Store version.
However, they do that by using a third party account that links your account to the game.
If you want it on steam, you'll have to buy it on steam.
To indicate that this information is available in multiple places.
The discord
Their twitch streams
Their youtube videos
Their twitter probably too
Havent checked the subreddit but wouldbt surprise me if it was available there too.
Want to borrow that invisible high-horse you think I am on to hurry towards the places that have the information?
You buy it on one store you don't get access to it also from another store. Every key has to be paid for and there's no transferring cause that would mean Epic would have to pay for a Steam key for you for the transfer. How stupid is that?...
I'm sorry, But are you guys high? You do know that steam allows devs to make unlimited keys for their games to do with as they please, right?
It is literally a case of generating a bucket of keys from the dev account, and setting up a system to verify you have it on epic to then give you one of the keys from the bucket.
Either you have totally misunderstood what you're responding to, or they aren't as high as you are...
You have totally misunderstood what you're responding to. As quoted.
The point of contention is that they both think the devs have to buy the keys from steam to then give them out. However It costs the devs nothing at all.
They don't buy any keys off of steam as they are the devs, and they are free to generate steam keys for their game till the cows come home. This is how steam has always worked on the dev end.
Sounds more like ignorance on your part.
Steam is a business not a charity.
They do not give keys to the devs for free, to pass along to customers who paid their competitors, so they can use their own service at their own cost.
