It really doesn't matter.

You do realize you can reread the TIP if you want to make a different choice, right? So why worry about this?

In a lot of visual novels, that sort of choice can have a larger effect on the story, but it doesn't here, from what I can tell. Don't worry about it.

I thought of doing this but when I did, it actually referenced the fact that i "now knew what was in both boxes".

Funny, isn't it? After making such a big deal out of the supposed fact that you can only make such a decision once, when you break that rule, though it notices that you've done so, it only nonchalantly acknowledges it, without expressing surprise or any other such thing.

Totally. I feel like cheating, in order to choose both was what the writer(s) wanted us to do all along. Really hammering down the whole "futility of choice" philosophy. Enticing us with the idea of "Oooo but what's in the other box? Gee, isn't it such a shame that there's totally NOTHING you can do to see both?" only for us to prove their point of people being too obsessed with what is and isn't the "right" or "best" choice.
