Confused

During the all cast review at the end of Tatarigoroshi, Shion announced that she would be the main character in the next game. I was pretty excited that I'd get to play as her, but I'm on chapter 2 now and I'm controlling some detective guy who is definitely not Shion.

She is the main character of the next game so my guess is probably that at the time of writing that, chapter 5 was going to be 4 but ended up making this the fourth game instead.

That is pretty much what happened. As I recall, Ryukishi07 wrote this arc but wasn't initially going to release it, or something, but changed his mind.

To my understanding, Ryukishi ended up having too little time to write Meakashi in half a year. So in order to avoid having nothing new to offer during the next Comiket, Himatsubushi was made instead. Hence why it's not very long and feels a bit tacked on, though it does cover some important stuff.

I was confused at first when I started it too...but I realized the title didn't match with the one announced in Ch. 3, and looking at Ch. 5 it did have the matching title. So...

The thing about this story is, I think it was probably going to be a later book in the series. I suspected it might even have been planned as the last book because of the way it ends.

But, I am glad about the material covered in this Ch. It really fills in a lot of information, and it provides an interesting insight that we hadn't seen in the series up to this point.

Did you even read all of Higurashi? I really don't see how this was ever meant to happen in Matsuribayashi.

I'm on Ch. 6 now... I said above "..I think it was..." and "I Suspect..." meaning that it is a theory / conjecture, not something that I have proof for yet. If I did have proof, I wouldn't post it here as it would constitute a spoiler for the rest of the series.
