Questions about controls and save

So my controller won't work with this game.
Of course the game keeps explaining to me which button I have to press on my non working controller and I have to guess the keyboard controls. I figured out how to go from micro to macro with tab. But I can't find which key will let me discover new life forms :|
Can I find somewhere a list of the keyboard controls???

When does the game save??
There is no option to leave the game or save anywhere (or I couldn't find it, please let me know).
I just shut down the game as I couldn't go forward without discovering life. It seems nothing has been saved. So how does save work?


I understand it's a console port, but for that price a bit of on PC features would be appreciated.
There is no graphics or sound options either??
