11 hours in and bored
I dont really understand what people see in this game.

I kinda like the overall atmosphere and the machine life forms are sometimes quite cute. Some missions too. Artstyle is alright but aside from the main characters its pretty basic too.

Forest zone, Flooded City, main city, all kinda looks the same. Only real cool area is the amusement park and that is mainly because of the different colour pattern. All the rest is just grey and dull even the forest.

Overall i'm just disappointed. Gameplay is very shallow, world overall is bleak and boring. There is just nothing to keep me hooked.

I know if you love the game you most likely dont care which is fine. I know there are multiple endings or routes but the game for me isnt even interesting enough to finish one route. :steamfacepalm:

Forced camera sections are more irritating than innovative. Fights often feel tedious.

I just saved 9S from Adam. But i dont see me coming back.

such a sham, i had high hopes because there is so much praise for this game.

it's about the story. one and only. not about the gameplay. where you are now it goes on. play the whole game. keep playing until the very end. and you should play multiple endings. just one ending is not enough. each has its meaning. at the end you will understand.

the fun part of this game is that first 20h(for most of the players) its just legit a prologe lol
once you will finish the first two playthrows its become like a totaly new game

Honestly multiple endings and good story are only the cherry on top for me in a game.

You cant safe a game with boring gameplay with story.

I already uninstalled it yesterday.

I gave it an honest chance imo. But if you are 10 hours in there should be something that got your attention.

RDR2, witcher 3, nioh are all a bit slow at the beginning but thats because they are big and complex. That doesnt really seem to be the case here imo.

Its not that i have no patience with slow games. It just doesnt feel worth it.

Thx for the comments.

I'm 8 hours in, and I feel the same. My frustration is the awful map and how they made it hard to find side quests an even main quests. Not too mention the bad pc port. I downloaded a mod so I can play with Keyboard and mouse.

Yes technically its a bit frustrating too. But that would not kill it for me tbh.
Its more a gamplay issue for me and playing with gamepade feels alright.

Yeah, thanks for the conversation. Very polite way to go about it, other people posting about how they dislike a game usually goes way worse.

I feel going about it the way the OP did is healthy. When I get bored watching an anime (or playing a game) - I stop. Most people spend money on a game and think they are honor bound or something to finish it. The idea that "I already wasted my money, so I may as well stop so I don't waste time" doesn't cross regular people's minds.

Any cheers. I have RDR2, The WItcher 3 and Nioh all Unplayed (never started), so I got value out of this. While I finished Nier, I clearly was getting bored by the end. Since our ideas align, maybe I'll finally start one of those games I got on sale way back haha. Peace!

Well i sure know this feeling of playing a game that you dont really like.

But often its just a slow burner and you should not drop a game too early i think.
But when i'm really sure i have no fun anymore i usually will drop it nowadays.

Other games only picked up pace after some time and i ended up loving them. Its always a bit difficult.

But i'm too old playing games i dont like :D

This is normal. For me, Nier Automata is one of the biggest disappointments in the gaming industry. No kidding. So many great reviews for this game...
Terrible balance, tons of healing items (which are also automatically used), an empty world without secrets (because you can’t even open chests on the first playthrough), repeating the same thing on the second playthrough, terrible drawn-out secondary missions, purchasable achievements, character level system... and this is not the whole list.
All, except for the music and the plot is done badly.

Well thx for the backup. At least i'm not the only one.

I think there is some potential but many things are just not that well done. Like you said.

Perhaps the purpose of the game is for you to be the hero as 9S.

And agree on the bad maps. Took awhile to get used to and YouTube vids.

Square Enix even includes a joke about it in game where 9S goes.

"These maps are horrible" and 2B replies "They are good enough for you to get a rough idea on where u need to go"

Anyhow, Nier is really a grind game where u get good weapons and fuse chips on 2B farm and get powerful and then hack and slash in a boring fashion where u feel God like.
Sokurah Feb 14, 2022 @ 1:36am
The worst about the map for me was that there is no north indicator and it just turns the way you are facing.

Never seen such crap tbh 🤣

That makes it hard to navigate when you open the map and its annoying.

Mini map is stupid as well but because the indicators that are far away are not actually at the edge of the map.

I hate the ridiculous backtracking. I'm having a hard time with it too. Its just boring gameplay with a bit of interesting story sparsely put here and there
TheRealKillua Feb 20, 2022 @ 9:19pm
Just get to the end of the game. The game has a long prologue. A very long prologue. 20 hours in is still just the beginning of the game. And it takes a very long time to actually get into the story and the whole "gameplay meat" of the game. You haven't even seen 1/10th of what the game has to offer if that's where you're giving up. It's legitimately one of the best games ever made, and unfortunately I also personally know people who feel the same way and who have given up on the game despite me pleading with them to just get to the end, regardless of if it seems a bit slow. I can honestly say I never felt this way while playing through it the first time. There was a point when I first got to the first open area, after the initial opening, where I felt a bit overwhelmed, but that only lasted about an hour at the most and after that it was all smooth sailing. It's a shame that some people feel this way about the game because I think this game is an experience unlike any other, and it just takes a little bit of patience to get to what the game is about, and to really see it for what it is, a masterpiece. By the time I got to the second playthrough I was absolutely sure that I wanted to 100% this game. By the time I got to the third playthrough it had already become one of my favourite games of all time. People just need to learn to get to the end of the first playthrough, honestly.
Sokurah Feb 20, 2022 @ 11:20pm
Only thing thats overwhelming was the bad map and the fact you find so many points of interest with quests that are not interesting at all. 😅

Best game ever made? I mean you can like the game i have no problem with that. I also see some charm in the game and maybe you really start to love the story at some point but you cant actually be serious with that.

Game already get repetative 10 hours in and while i have heard comat changes a bit the vast majority of the Internet seems to agree gameplay is not really strong with that game. World design is bad as well.

I also like some flawed games others might not like but i know them flaws and would never try to hide them.

And to call a game best every just because the story is good is just not right.

The story itself is boring, first 18 hours of the game, the great objective is not clearly shown. It gives me the feeling that the main character is just a random android passively encounter things. I don't know if there is great plot twist or what, but it is not interesting in the first place, that's hard to keep me curios. Not to mention the game play details, but the art style, visual design, music, animation is excellent.
