Route A = first half of the game/story from 2B's perspective, and leads to ending A
Route B = first half of the game/story from 9S' perspective, and leads to ending B
Route C = second half of the game/story that switches between 2B, 9S and a third semi-secret character, and leads to endings C or D
True ending = after getting both endings C and D, you will unlock the final, true ending to the game, ending E.
...
So, in short, Route B will share many similarities to Route A.
But the differences are:
1.) You're playing another character with different abilities
2.) The beginning and much of the ending (during the portions where the characters are separated) are different, for obvious reasons.
3.) There are additional cutscenes added throughout the route, which add context to what is going on.
4.) Some of the "same" cutscenes will have...new additions, let's call them, if you're looking carefully enough.
5.) All new side quests that are exclusive to 9S, that were not available in Route A (plus, you keep all of your weapons, items, levels and chips, plus all the side quests you completed in Route A will stay completed, meaning you don't have to redo any side quests you already did -- the only exceptions are the two side quests you do for the Resistance camp when you first get there, since they are technically part of the main story).
6.) There are certain weapons/items/etc. that are locked out and cannot be obtained until Route B.
7.) And, most importantly, leads to the second half of the game/story, Route C.
...
Hopefully this helps you understand what you're getting into.
wow sounds really complicated and confusing but i am assuming it makes sense once i start the game.
from the looks tho what you explained it makes sense and its not really a totaly "start a new game thing" kinda like Resident Evil 6
i just do not like games that make you replay a whole game just to get a certain ending while everything is the same. here it kinds sounds like this wont be the case i guess i have to start playing (once DL is done) to understand exactly how the endings work
The B Route is similar to A Route but it's not the same. You replay some of the same events but have to handle them entirely differently because the enemies are mixed up and you play as 9S instead of 2B, and he has different strengths and weaknesses. You're getting parts of the same story with new content from a completely different perspective.
Route C has yet another character but you're not replaying the same events like with Route A/B, it's pretty much all new from there and continues the story further rather than filling in the existing story.
You haven't completed the game untill you finish Route E.
Finishing Route A is like finishing 33%~ of the game.
Think of it less of getting multiple endings and rather finishing multiple chapters. You don't stop reading a book after the first chapter and say you finished the book.
Routes A-E are the chapters to the story. Everything else is just joke endings and don't require you to replay anything really. You do them, get your game over, and then play again from your last save.
I beg to differ, we complete the game when we got the Backpack and Sword wallpaper for main menu screen, I mean we have to agree to do "that" to get the wallpaper, and finishing route E doesn't mean You'll get the wallpaper
