"ERROR: Graphic::Startup FAILED. No Graphic Memory." (Fixed, sort of)
EDIT: I got it to work again after I reverted back to Windows 7, it's such a weird glitch, but maybe Windows 10 breaks something when I change to it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Looks like other people had this problem before, but I'm getting it now too in the middle of my playthrough, just after being introduced to Route C!

I've gotten this error recently after upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows 7 on my computer: https://i.imgur.com/BVAOTc7.png

I've looked through many possible solutions, but none has helped so far, here's what I've tried:

1. Verified game cache
2. Deleted FAR mod, sometimes testing with and without, same problem
3. Uninstalled and reinstalled 3 times on both SSD and HDD
4. Added Nier: Automata to Nvidia control panel under 3D settings, I also don't have GeForce experience installed, I always opt-out
5. Used DDU to rollback drivers and installed newest Nvidia drivers when disconnected from internet
6. Replaced D3D9.dll in SysWOW64 with five different variations and restarted, which either crashes Steam or doesn't fix it anyways
7. Deleted related entries in "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers"
8. Disabled game mode on Win10
9. Turned off Discord and Steam Overlay
10. Booted the game in offline mode, disabled Steam Cloud (I thought maybe the saves file might affect the error, but I guess not)
11. Added an exception to the Steam folder in Avast Anti-Virus
12. Disconnected my controller

I'm thinking it might have something to do with Windows 10, because the game was running fine before I updated my OS, but I have no real clue. I also don't want to rollback the OS because I'm afraid that might cause further system-wide problems.

Some of my basic specs, in case it's needed:

OS: Windows 10 Pro, 64-bit
GPU: GeForce GTX 1050 Ti
CPU: Intel Core i5 3570K @ 3.40GHz
RAM: Kingston 8GB DDR3
SSD: Kingston A400 480GB
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB

I'd like to hear any other possible fixes if anyone has any, thanks in advance!

Do you use any overclocking software for your GPU like MSI Afterburner (which comes also with Riva Tuner Statistics Server to add an overlay for GPU and CPU stats)? If so, please try to disable them.
In case RTSS is installed, also try adding a separate profile for the game.

Hm, I don't think so, I never dabbled with any overclocking software. I double-checked my programs in the control panel as well as the task manager just to make sure, and I don't see any "MSI Afterburner" software.

I have win10 and played the whole game without any problem, only when I started the game, I could the save file give no name, but can you start a new game or you get also this error.

Yeah, I even tried deleting my save files in Documents/My Games/NieR_Automata, and turning off Steam Cloud to force a completely fresh install, but I still have the same error. :/

The inability to type a new name though is probably related to the FAR mod, I think you need to hold ALT or something for a bit and then you can use the keyboard again.

However, for me, I can't even get in the game anymore. Just gives me the error on launch.

No the solution was to delete every file in documents/my games/nier_automata besides Grafic.ini, but this was not my solution. But if you like, I could send you my save file, its complete to the endings a b c , and there you have a chapter select, where you can go to the same point, where you have the error.

Ok, everything works again after reverting my Windows 10 upgrade back to Windows 7. Well, I'm not going to change anything again until I finish my Nier playthrough!

As far as I know, Windows 10 requires a considerable amount of graphics memory even when idle.

this is why the FAR mod is good to have, you can use it to troubleshoot these issue by disabling overlays, and 3rd party plugin programs that can cause issues

Not the result we all hoped for, but I get your frustration. :( It is such a shame the game was ported so poorly. Nevertheless, enjoy!

Im on windows 10 pro, no issues here. If you're using a non-legit windows 10 it can be the cause, if not there might be a driver related issue or something else, kinda hard to say the exact reason.
I have Windows 10 and I am having this issue just in the beginning ! :( What do you guys recommend?
