[SPOILERS] How to learn more about 2B's real designation?
During the final dialogue between A2 and 9S we learn that 2B's real designation was 2E. From "Amnesia" side quest we know that "E" stands for "Execution". In this scene there's also mentioned it was very hard for 2B to kill 9S over and over again (A2 points that out and 9S marks it in his thoughts). Even in endings A and B, after 9S' strangulation, 2B asks desperately "Why it always ends like this?".

Basing on that data, we can claim that rendezvous of 2B and 9S (from prologue) which we - players - see, wasn't their first one and 2B used to fullfill her heartbreaking duty more times in the past.

And here's my question. Are there more in-game sources of information about these events ("erasing" memories of scanners, not necessarily 9S only)?
Maybe archives? I have about 13% remaining to collect. I hope I will find something among them.
Side quests? I have 2 remaining: "Emil's determination" and "Reconnaissance squad". Perhaps in the second one could be something connected to this topic, because of the interaction with the other scanner model.

Aside from Amnesia and The Wandering Couple I don't think there were that many side quests or lore pieces regarding memory wipes. I only recall one in a weapon story, about wiping out data from a Black Box.

But there are plenty of things foreshadowing 2B's true designation. I would really recommend you to replay the game from scratch, if you have the time, and look for them yourself, listen closely to every single dialogue and word in the text, especially 2B's silence "......".

I can give a few examples, like the first 2 quests with weapons dealer and supply trader, how one mentions how his weapons are making his friends die (exactly what 2B has been doing), and another says if his parts are replaced, will he stay himself? (That's what just happened to 9S in the intro). Yet 2B stays dead silent with her "......" no comment mode.

Or even more subtle mindgames, when 2B is asking 9S on the way to Pascal after the opera boss, "what's that?", and 9S says "oh right, you wouldn't have seen this before. They're sending supplies to the moon...". There's just no way that 2B hasn't seen that before, she pretends to be a rookie to deceive 9S and 9S believes that she's one too.

YoRHa body storage records indicate that 9S is NOT in the storage, yet 2B is in it. But how can that be? If 2B is in the storage, then who is with 9S?

Notice the placement of 2B's room in the Bunker. All of the rooms are categorised, S, O, B, yet her room is completely isolated.

The intel about model no. 2 explains that A2 has excellent analytical and decision making skills. Her personality data is installed in 2B to help her disguise herself.

And those are just things off the top of my head, when there's a ton more. Almost every single thing has a purpose in this game, emails, the timing when you get them and even operator conversations. It's a thoughtful game and revealing every detail in a thread or a video would defeat the game's purpose and make it a disservice.
I think the irregularities already start in the prologue where number 2 was not only able to get through the laserbeam spam unscathed but went on to fight an Engels and win (even if with the help of 9S). Every interaction you have with other B models, where they should be helping you, show that B models are easily outclassed, yet 2B has very few issues. The fact she has kept her sanity throughout all this also means she's rather unique among the E models. There's loads of details that you wouldn't think of at first as an anomaly, especially since in other games this is fairly normal, but when the truth comes out it makes you really go like "oh, so that's why..."

Hell yeah. For sure I'll play it again. During my playthrough I really liked these dialogues triggered in certain moments between characters. I especially memorized the one in the commercial facility, when 9S speculates that after the end of war they (he and 2B) should go shopping here. He says: "I could buy you... I dunno. A T-shirt, maybe? Something that looks good on you". The way he freely speaks about those distant plans, which we don't know if they're likely to happen, is very hearthworming. I liked it very much.

Once you mentioned that, I reminded myself another example of such behaviour. In prologue, after exiting the factory, while climbing up disguised goliath, 2B spots flock of birds flying away and asks with emotion "Is that..?" as if she saw them for the first time in her life. Huh, these things made me think that descent on the abandoned factory was 2B's first mission but it wasn't. The more surprising are conclusions which we get from the end of the game.

Yeah, we can find in archives about no. 2 that her data will be used in future models.
