You know, I just was in another thread where the OP asked a very valid question about choking a robot, and your phrasing itself has forced me to ask: these are robots right? I mean in the sense of, it's literally robots and humanity is extinct, basically SOMA tier plot. Probably barely worth the effort of spoilering since that much is obvious but may as well not be a ♥♥♥♥ about it.
> Automata is over represented by 2B's ass,
This still seems to be the case and this morning I'll give one shred of benefit of doubt to it still, since I remember so many people trying to claim it was allegedly "deep" back in the day, but then I see well just this forum itself on top of the front page reviews, and it's at best done a massive disservice to the game. The little I did see about it made the gameplay look pretty weak to just outright terrible, seemingly openly bad combat for the sake of a skirt lift. But even then, even with atrocious gameplay or illogical plot, enough people said the story was good, but just reading these reviews I have to ask:
is the story "good" in the same way people tried telling me Life is Strange or a TellTale game is some "masterpiece"? Or is this another sappy anime tier plot about "what if we're all just feeling robots and here's a romance plot and my adopted sister-niece" type thing?
Because sheesh ten minutes of these reviews makes me want to be insulting. Is this an actual scifi story, or it is just anime?
>anime avatar
I take no offense but just for your info i have played my share of games (soulsbourne, monster hunter, assassin's creed, gta V etc)
>robots
They are robots. But what i meant was like if they looked like robots (Like the C3PO looking robot you mentioned) instead of looking more human.
>gameplay
Well it is a typical hack and slash more on the simplistic side compared to combat systems you can find in like elden ring, the witcher 3, breath of the wild etc. It does have twists from time to time that changes the gameplay with a bigger change happening after starting from the second play through.
>story
Well it's not your typical save the world or everything goes good crap for sure. Yoko Taro's stories tend to fall on the darker aspects and more philosophical side (Other than the main plot, it can be seen in most of the side quests as well). The game goes in the direction of stuff like "What is the meaning of life", "Why are we here just to suffer". "2B or not 2B" (XD) etc.
Regarding the romance, pretty sure there are only like small hints of it in the game. leaving much to interpretation. It may not even be in the romantic sense, from a different perspective I can see it being familial instead. The romance probably got blown out of proportion due to it being what most people want and so they interpret it as such.
Automata is also a sort of a sequel to the previous game (Nier replicant/Nier). While not a direct sequel it happens like way way way long after the previous game. A lot of stuff can be found that is linked to the previous game which allows for moments of "I KNOW THIS" or "SO THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED TO IT AFTER XXXX YEARS" for those who played the previous. These stuff are not extremely necessary for the main plot though (Different characters and unlinked main plot) which is why you can play Automata without playing the previous or do it the other way around.
The story presentation though deserves a point in my book. Yoko Taro likes to tell his stories with more than one medium other than the game (Stage plays, novels, books, manga etc) which gives out new information about the world or plot that cannot be found from just the game alone. Hell. the series started from being a stage play itself before even becoming games. There's even a whole wiki dedicated for what to read or do after finishing the game.
In the game itself though, most of the side quests are some what connected and have a degree of relevance to the main plot. If you dig further like the weapon stories, you can find more hidden information as well.
And the game does have a very special and memorable moment (Not for the characters but for you as the player) that can only be experienced in this game (So far have not found any similar) if you pull through all the way to the end of the game.

Not my type of games usually, and Square Enix is an awful awful dumpster full of wasps, that is set on fire.
I'd play it and send Squenix' President a letter with poop.
Why are you just choosing that everything negative you read about the game is fact and everything good is just dubious opinion?
Heck, what even is "good" story for you? DOOM? Dark Souls?
Yes, the story is amazing, we are telling you. It goes deep into philosophical questions about sorrow and existence, though this game is definitely that meme where the average person is looking at it and make some dumb comment about some trivial thing while the point goes completely over their head.
If you are a rock without feelings and just want a "plot" of "pick up gun, walk over there, shoot things, win", then I don't know what to tell you other than this game is not for you.
The game is not defined by 2B's ass, and you are losing an amazing 40 hour-long experience by believing that this game is overglorified because of a juicy ass.
Just make sure to play this with a controller, or you'll have to install a mod that makes the KB&M controls bearable (although the process is not at all complicated, so you'll manage to do it just fine)
