Is performance really that crappy?
So In January I built a new gaming rig - AMD 5600X, RTX 3070. So far I have been chewing through every game 80-144 frames.

Nier runs pretty badly - varying between 40-60FPS (I know there is lock, I didn't remove it).

I know of FAR mod - installed it, after to my confusion pre-rendered cutscenes were barely watchable due tp stagger.

I did some tweaking with FAR mod - messed with some lighting quality and it seemed to improve game a bit. It's stays closer to 60FPS but still sometimes dips.

Changes to ingame settings seem to make no difference what-so-ever. Make it low or ultra - FPS seems to stay the same. I tried even dropping resolution (from 1440p to 1080p) and switching from Fullscreen to window.

In FAR settings, keep Global Illumination at High(there's no perceptible difference compared the default Ultra, but it's much less taxing). In game settings disable AA entirely(as it is once again a setting that is unnecessarily very taxing), and keep only AO enabled(it has its own SMAA filter applied over), keeping them both on will cause lod popping.
In the game folder, right click on the game exe and disable windows 10 fullscreen optimizations in properties.
In general, there will still be some framerate drop, but that's a limitation of the game engine and how the game loads assets, but with your hardware they shouldn't be that big.
If all of this does not help, there's a guide here on steam about changing some stuff about how FAR interacts with the steamapi since apparently it can cause some stuttering even when using FAR, i did not test it myself cause despite having a low end pc which can run this game only at 30-ish fps, i never got any stutter, but quite a few people commenting in the original thread where that solution was posted said it helped a lot, so it's worth a try.

But yeah, sadly this is one of those bad PC ports where top tier specs don't guarantee the best performance.

It's very odd. Just for reference: I'm running it at 4k with FAR in a RTX 2080 Ti and everything maxed except MSAA(not supported in HDR version) and it runs 60fps perfectly smooth. GPU usage rounds 60-70%, so there's still a fair amount of headroom as far a core is concerned.

In the past I also run it without HDR and MSAAx8 and GPU usage would go to 90%+ and some framedrops in City Ruins mainly, all other areas were perfectly smooth.

I still notice framedrops when changing between areas, but that's expected. This game hasn't optimized too much asset loading, so even the fastest SSD-RAM-VRAM combos will struggle with map loading during gameplay.

It's hard to believe that an RTX3070 should struggle to run this at 1440p, it should. Unless the issue is outside the game or something like that: driver or who knows...

Could you monitor both CPU/GPU usage during game? It may give an insight; FAR provides widgets for monitoring your hardware while running the game.

PS: I don't consider AA stupidly expensive. May be a preference, but it gets very hard through my nerves the edge flickering, so I'm really pleased of having a good AA in games. N:A with MSAAx8 is a breeze in that.

Thanks a lot. I did all that before aside from disabling windows 10 fullscreen optimization. It seemed to do wonders and the game seems to run more or less at 60FPS with occasional drops when entering new area.

Really frustrating as the game doesn't even tax the CPU and GPU. Bad ports make me sad.
