(SPOILERS!) How do androids die?
So, I have started route C. I just have completed that moment where A2 killed 2B. And now I wonder, how do YoRHa androids die?

For example, if you "die" throughout the game, you will get a new body and your memories will be transported into it. The same goes with suicide commited by destroying black boxes. So, you can't really die.

But there was a quest from YoRHa unit D, where she asked you to find her friend 11B. 11B was taken down during the prologue. She didn't get a new body. So, she's dead.

I don't really understand how does it work. Did 2B die because bunker was destroyed and there were nobody to get her the new body? Did 11B not get the new body because she wanted to abandon her mission and escape thus betraying YoRHa?

I don't really get it. Will there be an explanation in the future or did I miss something?

There are two components to androids, their body, and their save, aka, their mind, so to speak. An android permanantly dies when the save is lost, but they do back-up saves from time to time, and those are stored in the Bunker server.

So yes, 2B died because the Bunker got destroyed, and all the back-up saves with it. As for 11B, the thing is, while an android can have a back-up save, is it still the same android? Maybe Unit D bonded with the prologue version of 11B and wants you to specifically rescue that version. What if 11B save predates her encounter with Unit D? They would no longer be friend. They could of course start a new friendship, but would it be the same? What makes ones'personality? Is it just who you are or what you do?

It's not the body that matters, it's the save. That's why 2B got so emotional at the end of the prologue when 9S is about to die (that and another reason explained down the line). Wouldn't be the same 9S.

That's why androids are still afraid to die. It's not stated, but they clearly do, from what we can see. Because they may have saves, but they still loose everything between the last save and the most recent death.

this is the easiest way to describe it
you kwno when you transport to the bunmker and back to the siurface? thats not the same body, you know?
it's liek your personality is in the cloud saves. And the bodies are just vehicles to store that, with your black box being the very fiber of their being - which is why when a black box is destroyed, you cant recover the android ( liek with 11 b )_
