Someone had mentioned this game is more or less story based, and you wouldn't really get any "Insane" combo's like Bayonetta, and DMC Games, which is a shame.
However, I did find if I used two light swords, rather than a heavy sword/spear, the combo's did tend to feel a bit better, and you're even able to throw in uppercut jumps and such by pressing Jump, and heavy attack one after the other.
I agree thus far enemies are too "Bullet Spongey" or at least where I am now. Granted the quest to take down the level 40 Master Bot on the building shouldn't be attempted at level 16 ish, that didn't stop me from cheesing him though. But after doing 1 dmg per hit now on him, and absolutely no skill involved at all, I really couldn't force myself to fight him until I get to a higher level.
I'm trying to push through this game same as you, but... I dunno, I feel like if I just wanna mash buttons, and turn my brain off combat wise, I'll just go back to Dynasty Warriors games, which is exactly what I'm doing now, until I get an urge to try and play Nier again.
It's a shame the game isn't really pulling me in, one day I'll find that urge though...
The other sad part is I heard the "True Ending" comes from beating the game 12 times each with a different character or something. So imagine trying to force yourself through multiple playthrough's.
That's not quite right. You play the game until you get the ending. Then you play the entire thing again as 9S, but you get different sidequests, and eventually the paths diverge as 2B and 9S get seperated, eventually you reach the same ending as the first one. The third run straight up continues from where the first two runs ended, with maybe one of the best delayed title drop opening credits sequences of all time. This path then leads you to the actual ending.
You can do a lot of complicated and satisfying combos in this game, but you can finish the game without it. And there is a portion of the game that you'll be heavily handicapped about it.
This is more of a story driven game. About the endings, there are 5 main endings. You only need to play the game through the 3 routes. The first 2 are slightly similar while the third is completely different. The 4th ending comes from the picking a different choice in the final route. You'll have chapter select so you don't need to do the same thing over again. The fifth ending comes after the 4th one. Barely any effort at all.
This is story driven game, rest is just an addition
You need to play game twice, after second time, story progresses, and later You will need to do final fight from two persectives to get true ending
If it ain't for You, leave it. This is not some kind of high quality hack and smash game, it is "generic" action hack and slash with little bit of this and that thrown into it.
Nier Automata is about the journey/story and gameplay is just there as an addition
So you need to play this game multiple times even tho it's a long grindy RPG with fetch quests? That makes no sense to me.
If the story is good, should I just drop the difficulty to Easy and only go for the main story?
Playing only through the main quests is pretty much the worst possible way to play the game, as i said the story will be harder to follow, and gameplay wise you'll end up where you started, underleveled facing sponge enemies that are 10 level(if not more) higher than you.
This game gets very good after the 2nd playtrough. Combat is not the best thing in this game.
Just so you know, when we say second playthrough, it is NOT the same a second time. It is fundamentally very different, so don't worry about grinding through the game again. Don't let that scare you away.
That' s good to know, I thought people meant literally the same playthrough again, like NG+
