Playability with keyboard.
I took the sale to buy this, then all huge download. I found using the keyboard is something that with just before two hours and no beating the first boss on normal mode, feels like it's unplayable with keyboard+mouse (at least for me).
I thave played 118 mins, so I can't make more tries without getting beyond the refund time and, if practice won't make me improve much, then it's unplayable and I should ask a refund.
So, I have a few questions before I go ahead and ask a refund, because I honestly would like to play this game.
- Those who use keyboard... can beat it in hard mode?
- Any YT let's play using keyboard?
- Those who follow the guide in this link: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=886396996 how much improvement was it? And how hard was for you to dodge the mechanical arms before the first boiss/first half of boss? <-EDITED IN
- How much would you say you improved from the first two hours after getting to mid game?
- How easy is the easy mode? I read somewhere in easy the game plays itself. Now I may refund it for being too hard to control with keyboard, but having no challenge isn't the answer.
P.D.- Do NOT tell me to get a controller. For reasons I can only barely use an old XBOX controller so I'm 95% sure it's not an option for me.

You might as well could have played ''Intro'' on Easy, since there really is no real penalty for doing so,

I felt the same at start, how garbage was keyboard controls,
but with a little bit of rebinding and slight practice, and up-ing my focus,
I managed to find a workable system when using that non-sense double-tap Evade.

And in the end I died only once, because I thought: ''i wont get insta-killed by a giant hydrolic machine press''
----
I played on normal and game seemed super easy and forgiving anyway.

TL;DR There are only 2 problems with PC controls:
1. Double-tap evade (which you need to fine-tune your approach to it).
2. Controls in hacking mini-games (which are a lot later on in-game)

I too tried to play this game with a keyboard. It's near unplayable. Easy mode helped but the auto attack chip took the fun out of the game. Anyway, a friend of mine showed me how to use a PS3 contoller on PC and after that I enjoyed the game more.

Play with a controller?

I'm absolutely perplexed as to why people try to play a controller game with a k/m. A good used 360 controller is $5-$10 for crying out loud.

Totally playable with KB and mouse. Tried playing the game on Hard, because that´s where I finished Witcher 3, and yes was spanked... hard, but what made me giving up and switch to Normal (after some good 8 hours) was how crazy long the intro is. Auto save addiction is a real disease, people :steammocking:

But once I switched to Normal... it was... easy.

Sigh, the get a controller guys have to show up even when told that's not really an option. Due to past health issues my hands are very small and fingers are bent with limited mobility and strength, which makes using a controller barely possible. I had an XBOX that was given as a gift along three games. I could play it, yes, but it was because I never had to use two sticks at the same time, which it seems this one requires and I didn't need to use a trigger plus a button, which this game also requires. Though it's been some years since then, I'm pretty sure I still would be unable to play anything that requires either simultanous use of both sticks or simultaneous activation of a trigger and a button (or two triggers or two buttons). I just can't use controlers, but I can use keyboard and mouse.

You should improve with practice. Things like double-tap dodge definitely take some time to get used to, but after a while, it ends up working pretty well.

It should be fairly possible on hard. The game just isn't that difficult, and once you start popping in some of the good chips, it trivializes a lot of the combat.

The prologue is probably one of the hardest sections, as you don't have any chips (except the auto-use), and it's a long section where you can't save at all. For the most part, you just need to get comfortable with the dodge (even on keyboard, you can spam it and avoid all damage).

The camera movement is bit annoying and double tapping to evade can be problematic at times but it's not unplayable. It takes few hours to get used to but like people have said, the game is not overly difficult.

It is playable on normal. Hard i haven't tryed so don't know. It does feel much easier after intro.

Okay. Then as difficulty can be changed on the fly, I could make the prologue on easy and then change to normal. Keeping the game is gaining many points. Thanks everyone (I include the get a controller guys, too).

To be honest it does what games should do, Normal to be the learning difficulty and hard the one to go once you´ve mastered it.

I do think some endings should require hard difficulty, because else there is no point going for it, except if Normal is too easy and button-mashing. Hqrd requires mastering shooting and evading but also smart pod and item use.

I finished the whole thing on normal with k/m and now am almost done with hard.

That guide you mentioned works but personally I found it much easier to just put a R+R (evade) macro on my mouse 4 button with razer's own software. Now I just tap mouse 4 and the character evades. Very easy.

Until you get timings right on enemies without shining red eyes, you tend to die a lot. After finishing the game on normal, hard wasn't too much of a challenge (since you know what to look for to evade). Also, you can always overlevel by grinding and just go One Punch Man on everything even on hard.

Hacking sections are the annoying parts but nothing impossible really.

The game generally just takes getting used to, it's not really what you use that makes it more difficult.

The intro took me about an hour and a half to complete after several failed attempts and I used both my keyboard and controller. Once you get the hang of the gameplay however playing it is a breeze. I personally know I preferred the keyboard over anything.
