The emulator requires a lot of CPU power. So, your i5 should be enough.
Get a better CPU.
If you're really into Nier, and you're able to spend some money, and can find a cheap PS3, I think it's worth playing the game on there. Better to have the best experience possible, IMO.
If you're just curious about it, and don't want to spend the money, then consider the emulator route.
