The emulator requires a lot of CPU power. So, your i5 should be enough.

If you're really into Nier, and you're able to spend some money, and can find a cheap PS3, I think it's worth playing the game on there. Better to have the best experience possible, IMO.

If you're just curious about it, and don't want to spend the money, then consider the emulator route.

I'd assume the emulation route is the best experiance, with the bumped up resolutions

Yeah, the PS3 version is rather expensive now, probably due to interest from people who've played automata, probably your best bet would be second hand or somewhere like ebay or the like. If you had a X360, you probably could pick up a copy for about £10 if you look around
