idk how to getting emil to spawn after taking his mask (i heard its RNG or something but i don't wanna get stuck in the emil loop or whatever that bug was either)
so since the game isn't very hintful about the emil questline, i looked it up and am currently trying to get emil's gloves before i do the weapon grind

however after taking his mask, he is nowhere to be found in the city so i can hear him say he upped the security and break in again

what's the easiest sure fire way to be able to get him to spawn, i started in chapter 17-1 after doing the emil quest for the flowers in a previous chapter

Hello, I know this is a very old thread but I encountered this problem earlier, and managed to fix it.
Emil wouldn't spawn after coming back up from taking his mask in his lair, no matter if I reloaded the game, changed chapter and all that. So I went back in his lair and killed all the enemies on the way (from the elevator you unlock, not every enemy in the area). Once inside I walked up to where the masks are exposed, tried to hit it, interact with it (obviously it doesn't do anything) and when I came back up, Emile had spawned.

In short, I don't know exactly what I did that solved it (going back in / killing all enemies / trying to interact with the masks...)), but it worked and it's a lot faster than redoing a whole chapter like I saw somewhere else.

Hopefully this will help some people encountering this issue as well

Chapter select messes Emil's timeline up, I also had this issue you state. Use 9S for this as there is a box you have to hack involved. Start at 06-01 and play the story until you defeat A2. Instead of reporting to Pascal, go to entrance of desert where Emil usually spawns for the first time. Talk to him, buy something, talk to him again, go to his home, steal his stuff, go to any location in City Ruins where he spawns, talk to him again, go to his home, hack the box.

After entering the forest, go to City Ruins again and check if Emil already spawns as this saves some time because you can skip playing through Forest Kingdom.

Before Emil's Destiny (the mission you need to grind for weapon upgrades) you have to finish Emil's memories, which is preferably done.

Maybe timeline issues can also be resolved by creating a new save file. Do this by standing close to an access point, pause game, navigate to System tab, select Save and pick another save slot. Load this file. Yes, this seems a little bit odd but for unknown reasons, this has repeatedly proven to resolve many minor issues with missing npcs or mission triggers.

but i can't steal again cause i can't discard

also isn't 6-01 and A2 fight numerous chapters apart, i would rather not do ALL of that again

i'll try the last thing though, seems easiest to do

okay, just remember you do fight A2 before the finally, i started at 6-05 and it didn't work

i tried the double save thing and it didn't work

i already did emil's destiny cause thats part of the questline but i would rather get emil's heads before starting the weapon grind which is super tedious in and of itself (and even more annoying this bug, as much as i love this game it really needed some patch work cause this is killing the experience right now)

I guess you have finished Emil's Memories, as Emil's Determination (my mistake for calling it "destiny") is the mission you have to grind for weapon upgrades.

Anyways, Emil Heads[nierautomata.wiki.fextralife.com] combat bracers are available before weapon grinding begins. Here[nierautomata.wiki.fextralife.com] is a nice wiki entry which in short tells following for obtaining this weapon:
  1. Access Emil's home cave by finishing Emil's Memories quest
  2. Steal Emil's mask from a rack (it will stay in your inventory if chapter select is used, but you have to pick it up again to trigger further dialogue with Emil)
  3. Talk to Emil
  4. Return to his cave, hack the new chest and pick up Emil's Head
  5. Fight Emil, if you defeat him, you get Emil Heads combat bracers.

Now grinding for Emil's Determination can begin.

i did the steal the mask part, but know he doesn't spawn, i've been following that guide and i saw a guy on youtube do the excat same thing i did but when he got out, emil drove off the cliff and he chased

i didn't get that part happen to me and he doesn't spawn, and if that doesn't happen i can't fight him after robbing him a second time

I think I actually found the reason why this happens and how to prevent it. First you need to talk to Emil so that he tells you where his home is and then when you go there for the first time to steal the mask you need to go there the long way (falling through the big hole), NOT taking the second elevator, when you go down. That's it, just don't take the second elevator.
